Congratulations, Nevada and New York!
Nevada won the REST Forgotten Caregiver Award for training the most Companions, and New York, which trained the most Trainers, received the REST Vision Award for carrying out REST's vision of "Creating an international network of organizations that prepares individuals to support caregivers through respite." State Updates
The KARE 11 TV weekly series, "The Sandwich Generation," examines issues that are important to  people typically in their 30s, 40s or early 50s who are both raising younger children and caring for elderly parents. See the video clip here.
To commemorate National Family Caregivers Month , the Minnesota Department of Human Services will hold a Train-the-Trainer event on Nov. 15-16, and a Companion course on Nov. 17, in St. Paul.
Minnesota Department of Human Services will hold three satellite Companion courses this month , to commemorate National Family Caregivers Month:  Nov. 7, in Granite Falls; Nov. 15, in Warren, and on Nov. 18, in Bemidji. Click for details. 
Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress (UPCAP) recently produced a commercial about REST , which aired on three television networks throughout the U.P.  See it here.
Three Companion courses took place last month through  UPCAP, on Oct. 20 and 27, at Negaunee Senior Citizens Center, on Oct. 23 and 25at Copper Country Mental Health Institute, Houghton, and on Oct. 25 and 26, at Baraga County Hospital, L'Anse.
In honor of  National Family Caregivers Month, a Companion course will take place on Nov. 13, at Fort Hays State University, Hays, through the Senior Companion Program.

Unicorn Children's Foundation, Boca Raton, is accepting scholarship applications for the REST Train-the-Trainer event, which takes place on Jan. 9-10 , at Children's Services Council of Palm Beach County, Boynton Beach. More information here

New York
To celebrate National Family Caregivers Month, Cortland County Area Agency on Aging will host a free Caregiver Appreciation Luncheon on Nov. 17 , at the County Office Building Dining Room, Cortland. The event will include REST Master Trainer Doris Green and other guest speakers. Learn more.
"Hats Off to Caregivers," the 13th annual conference on caregiving, will take place Nov. 17 , at The Grandview, Poughkeepsie. See details

Five individuals completed a Train-the-Trainer course on Oct. 26-27, 
at  Catholic Charities Senior and Caregiver Support Services, Schenectady, through  New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition .
Spectrum Generations, Augusta, will utilize the REST training curriculum in November to orient their new Legacy Corps members who are beginning their new term of service.
REST exhibited at the  Alzheimer's Association's Third Annual Research Symposium on Nov. 2, at the Swissotel Chicago. Check out REST's latest research here.
The Family Caregiver Resource Center and AARP will host "Caregiver, Coffee, and Conversations" on Nov. 8 , at LifeSpan Center, Charleston. The event, in honor of National Family Caregiver Month, will include community professionals who can answer caregiver questions and share tips and helpful information to help make caregiving easier. The goal of the program is to assist caregivers in navigating resources available to help with providing quality care for their loved ones. Learn  more .
REST staff will exhibit and offer the REST Essentials course during the second annual National Caregiving Conference, Nov. 10-11 , at the Chicago Marriott O'Hare. The conference - themed "Our Boldest Hours: Before. During. After." - will draw caregivers, professionals, and others interested in caregiving issues. Register here
"Thanks for Caring," a caregiver appreciation event, will take place on Nov. 17,  at Brookdale Jones Farm, Huntsville, through Alabama Lifespan Respite. The free event, which commemorates National Family Caregivers Month, will include door prizes, Bingo, manicures, chair massages and lunch. Learn more here.
Staff members presented REST's latest research findings  during the 2017 National Lifespan Respite Conference, which took place Oct. 11-13, in Huntsville.
A REST Trainer held a Companion course on Oct. 20 , in Lake Havasu City, through Western Arizona Council of Governments.
Alzheimer's Family Center, Huntington Beach, will hold a Healthy Brain Fair on Nov. 4 , in commemoration of Alzheimer's Awareness Month and National Family Caregivers Month. The event will offer community members the opportunity to learn about maintaining brain health, signs and symptoms of memory loss, and many local resources available for family caregivers. Stanislaus Veterans Center, Modesto
has utilized REST volunteers to visit seniors whose caregivers have enrolled in the Family Caregiver Support Program. The program has received positive feedback from caregivers who have benefited from the program.
"Respite Summit 2017:  Making Waves" will take place on Nov. 16, at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson , through Mississippi Family Caregiver Coalition.  The event will draw caregivers, professional organizations, advocates and policy makers, with the goal of moving forward the policy agenda to create solutions for Mississippi's caregivers. Maui County Office on Aging is hosting the 16th Maui Family Caregiver's Conference on Nov. 2, at the Grand Wailea Resort. The event includes speakers, networking opportunities, and more than 30 exhibitors.  

Caregiver's Respite Laura E. Carter 5K walk/run will take place on Nov. 4 , at Overton Park, Memphis. Proceeds from the event will provide breaks for family caregivers.

"Who Supports the Caregiver?" took place on Oct. 24 , at Silver Key Senior Services, Colorado Springs. The educational session was part of a caregiving series, hosted by Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments, and other community organizations.
The Arkansas Lifespan Respite Coalition  is conducting a Respite Needs Assessment Survey to demonstrate the need for respite services in Arkansas, and to assist in efforts to promote the development of a statewide respite and crisis care system. Take the survey here.

Charlie's Place Activity and Respite Center, Baton Rouge , recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. The program, started by  Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area , serves caregivers of those with Alzheimer's disease, dementia or other memory impairment, and includes exercise sessions, mentally stimulating activities and lunch. "Morning Coffee with the Family Caregiver" will take place on Nov. 15, at Mid Plains Community College, North Platte, to celebrate National Family Caregivers Month . The event, hosted by Custer Care and Central Nebraska Community Action Partnership, will allow participants to explore ways to make their role as family caregiver easier. Topics will include effective communication strategies for those with Alzheimer's, caring for your health, taking a well-deserved break, and feeling refreshed and renewed. Learn more here

A Family Caregiver/Respite Provider "Meet and Greet" will take place on Nov. 15
, at the WellCare Welcome Room, Norfolk, through Central Nebraska Community Action Partnership and the Nebraska Lifespan Respite Network. The event, in commemoration of National Family Caregivers Month, will allow caregivers to learn more about respite care and meet respite providers in the area. See  details .
