Staff Picks for Summer Sunshine
Patti's Pick:
2015 Dom. de l'Enchantoir, Saumur Blanc Terres Blanches
If you want a fresh, vibrant wine with racy acidity reminiscent of fresh squeezed lime. This Saumur Blanc (which by law must be 80% Chenin) has green almond and star fruit with a hint of white flowers. Finishing with clean minerality and snappy acidity, this wine would be a wonderful accompaniment to white fish or grilled shrimp tacos. "Zippity Doo Dah Zippity Day" is what I say! -$18.99
Madison's Pick:
2017 Berthier Coteaux du Giennois Rosé
This just in - back on our shelves this week. From a tiny appellation in the Central Loire, the Berthier brothers craft beautiful wines on limestone and flint-rich hillsides just up the river from Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume. This rose of pinot noir is elegant and crisp, with bright notes of strawberry, cherry, and a little spice.
Dave's Pick:
2015 Agnes & Rene Mosse Bois-Rouge Vin de France
Some compulsive wine drinkers, such as myself, love a good mystery. Not content to grab the brightly labeled bottle stocked in bulk by the register we prefer to settle into the nooks and crannies of the wine world at large. French wine laws dictate that there be very limited claims and information on any wine labeled Vin de France, the most basic of french designations. Add in a quirky wine maker that's decided to drop all reference to the winemaker from the label and you have an intentional mystery. Of course, with a quick Google search you can get all the information you need but I see it as an excuse to revel in the mystery of wine. This Loire valley gem is a blend of Cab and Cab Franc it's light and dry with pleasantly refined tannin. A refreshing beverage and something to think about. -$23.99
Doug's Pick:
2016 Compania de Vinos Telmo Rodriguez Corriente, Rioja
I'm sure most people are in the same boat with me when I say that I drink more white wine in the summer and red wine in the winter but for some reason, I also gravitate toward Spanish reds during the summer months. Between May and September I seem to work through dozens of Priorats, Riojas and whatever else I can get my hands on from this Iberian Country. This particular wine by the famous wine maker Telmo Rodriguez does not dissappoint. It's a Tempranillo dominant Rioja with a little Graciano and Garnacha Tinta blended in to round-out the cuvee. The wine is rustic in style with bold cherry flavors, spice, and a long finish. The word  Corriente  refers to this wines ability to be a daily drinker and I couldn't be more in agreement, at least during the summer months. -$22.99
