A Philly coffee shop is serving up orders with a side of poetry

Elizabeth Estrada with WHYY writes on Elixr Coffee in Philadelphia who is partnering with local poets to distribute poems on coffee sleeves as part of a new public art initiative called "Heart on Your Sleeve." The project aims to bring poetry to the masses and to encourage people to slow down and appreciate the written word.

Poetry Out Loud 2023 National Finals

The Poetry Out Loud National Finals will return to Washington, D.C., this May after two years of virtual competitions. The annual event brings together high school students from across the country who memorize and recite classic and contemporary poems, competing for the title of national champion and the $20,000 prize. The event will be streamed live beginning on May 9 and going through May 10, 2023. All three semifinals are free and open to the public – no ticket required.

Artist Wins Photography Contest After Submitting AI-Generated Image, Then Forfeits Prize

ARTnews covers this story on the German artist, Boris Eldagsen, who won the World Photography Organization's Sony World Photography Awards for his photograph “The Electrician.” After revealing that the image was AI generated Eldagsen, he forfeited the prize saying he wanted to “start a discussion about the role of AI in photography.”

Grimes invites artists to use her voice for AI-generated songs, says she’ll split royalties

Singer Grimes is offering to share royalties with artists who use her voice in AI-generated songs which can be registered directly to her website. The Canadian musician said she will split the profits 50/50 with any successful AI-generated song that uses her voice. Grimes said she hopes to "open source all art and kill copyright" with this project.

Call for Submissions: Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize

The Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize is an award given annually by the Academy of American Poets to a living poet for a book of poems published in the United States during the previous year. The prize was established in 1975 by the New Hope Foundation in memory of Lenore Marshall, a poet, novelist, essayist, and political activist. The Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize is one of the most coveted awards in American poetry. Applicants must have an original book of poetry published in the United States in English as a standard edition (48 pages or more) by a living poet. Self-published books are not eligible.

Deadline: May 15, 2023 at 11:59PM EST

Prize Amount: $25,000, ten-day residency at Glen Hollow in Naples, New York, and a distribution of the winning book to hundreds of Academy of American Poets members

Call for Applications: Cleveland Arts Prize

Established by the Women’s City Club, the Cleveland Arts Prize (CAP) is currently applications for the Cleveland Arts Prize Discipline Awards. Artists in the disciplines or Music, Visual Arts, Literature, Theatre/Dance and Design are eligible to apply. Artists must currently or have previously lived or worked in Northeast Ohio. The Cleveland Arts Prize is a prestigious award that celebrates the creativity and talent of artists in Northeast Ohio.

Deadline: May 2, 2023 at 12:00AM EST

Prize Amount: $10,000 unrestricted
