This Weekend, We Celebrate 200 Years
Two hundred years.
Think about that for a moment.
In 1826, a small group of Methodists gathered in a young community called Perry. They could not have imagined us. They could not have pictured our sanctuary, our Family Life Center, our ministries, or the generations upon generations of people who would one day call this church home.
They simply gathered. They prayed. They worshiped. They trusted God with what came next.
And for 200 years, God has been faithful.
Through wars and depressions. Through seasons of tremendous growth and seasons of uncertainty. Through changing generations, changing communities, and a changing world, the people called Methodists in Perry have continued to gather around the same good news of Jesus Christ.
Children have been baptized here.
Couples have stood before God and promised their lives to one another.
Families have gathered to say goodbye to people they loved.
Sinners have found grace. The brokenhearted have found hope. Children have grown into adults and brought children of their own. People have answered calls to ministry and mission. Friendships have been formed. Lives have been changed.
And now we get to be the generation standing at the 200-year mark.
This weekend is our moment to remember what God has done, celebrate what God is doing, and look with faith toward what God will do next.
