95 Years of Giving Back and Paying it Forward

Scholarship, Sisterhood, Service & Social Action

December 19, 2021, marks the 95th anniversary of the St. Louis Alumnae Chapter. We began our journey of Scholarship, Sisterhood, Service and Social Action as the Lambda Sigma Chapter under the leadership of our five charter members: Founder Madree Penn, Golda Crutcher, Elizabeth Gross Green, Helen Lucas, and Imogene Wilson.

To mark this milestone the Heritage & Archives, Public Relations, Reclamation & Retention and Community Awareness & Involvement Committees have banded together to devise several activities to mark this momentous occasion that will take place throughout the sorority year.

Please read more about our kick-off activities in this Special 95th Anniversary Edition of the Express and join us for a virtual program on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at 6:30 PM. This program will highlight our chapter’s history and accomplishments.

President's Message

DeJeanette Williams-Picture.jpg

Greetings Sorors of the Saint Louis Alumnae Chapter:

On December 19, 1926 the Lambda Sigma Chapter was chartered by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. The chapter was renamed the Saint Louis Alumnae Chapter in the 1960’s due to the growing number of undergraduate chapters. It was decided that graduate chapters would turn over their nomenclature and rename according to the city in which they were located. This chapter was created to be a beacon of light in the St. Louis community. For 95 years, this great and historic chapter’s light continues to shine. We ensure that the mission of the organization is visible by the service that our members give continuously.

Our Five Point Programmatic Thrust (Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement Physical and Mental Health and Political Awareness and Involvement) is the tool through which we develop programs to meet the needs of the community. Our signature programs such as the Ariya/Rites of Passage Program, Breakfast with Santa, Delta Days at City Hall and the County Council and the Mind Guard scholarship are only a few examples of the great work of this chapter. Sisterhood, scholarship, service and social action is who we are and what we do.

Let's commemorate 95 years of sisterhood and service with kindness and love by giving service on Saturday, December 18, 2021. Join us as we kick off the celebration with the following service project opportunities. Be sure to register using the sign up links in the following section. You can also choose a location of your choice to give service on December 18th. Please make sure to take pictures no matter where you serve to document your service. Please Upload Your Pictures HERE.

We will also begin the 95 Acts of Kindness/Service challenge on December 18, 2021 and ending on March 31, 2021. For example, pay for someone’s meal at a restaurant, send a card to a soror who is shut in or donate to a shelter. Each member will use a tracker sheet to keep up with your activities. Completed forms should be submitted to president.sladst@gmail.com by April 1, 2021. The names of those who submit a form will be placed in a drawing for a prize at the April chapter meeting. Click her to access the tracker form: Random Acts of Kindness Tracker

Sorors Happy Charter Day! Continue to be a blessing to others and blessings will come back to you!

Sisterly,

DeJeanette Williams
