The midterm elections are near, and the results will shape politics for many years. In other words, it’s the perfect time to make fun of Democrats and Republicans! The Capitol Steps presents "Making America Grin Again!” at the Queensborough Performing Arts Center on Oct. 21. The troupe promises Donald and Melania Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Elizabeth Warren.
Ecuador and Colombia have great geographical variety with thick jungles, mountainous regions, and coastlines. The music emanating from these two neighboring countries reflects this diversity. Listen — and groove — to some of those regional differences during  South American Mashup: Inkhay and Río Mira  at Flushing Town Hall this weekend.
In one word: eclectic. In many words: poetry, birds, comedy, drama, Andean music, Frank Sinatra, fall festivals, climate, and Ugly Duckling. In a sentence: there’s a lot going on in the borough these days. Click here to read the "It's In Queens" weekly column. For the "It's In Queens" podcast, click here . A time-honored tale gets a modern jolt of juice. Lightwire Theater performs “The Ugly Duckling” at Queens Theatre on Oct. 21. The secret is “Electroluminescent Wire,” a thin copper wire coated in a phosphor which glows when an electric current is applied to it. The actors wear EW contraptions so they can create waving, glowing images as they boogie around the stage.
There’s no such thing as a free lunch…so let’s have some breakfast! Two Queens branches of Applebee’s — the ones in Astoria and Bayside — will offer  Signature Breakfast Service  at no cost to dine-in guests on Nov. 5 from 8 am to noon. The promotion is actually a celebration of the fact that both branches will expand their regular service to include breakfast starting on Oct. 29.
Entrepreneurs, business owners, and aspiring executives unite for education, empowerment, and marketing during the  Women on the Rise Forum & Expo  at LGA Plaza Hotel on Oct. 19-20.
