Quick, think of your favorite actor or actress. It could be television, movies, or the stage. Alive or not. When you picture this amazing artist, what characteristics of that person come to mind? What distinguishes them as a performer? How would you describe him or her as an actor?
Typical responses usually include: they are genuine, flexible, very talented, hard-working, passionate, well-trained, fun, adaptive, effective communicators and the list goes on.
Who else could these attributes describe?
Elite athletes? Maybe.
School teachers? Many.
Presidents? Getting closer.
How about outstanding leaders? Bingo!
I believe great leaders can be described using many, if not all, of the above characteristics. What does that suggest to us about leadership?
Great Leaders are Great Performers.
Leadership is a performance. As a leader, you are on stage every day. You're performing for your employees, your customers, your vendors, and the list goes on.
