President's Corner

“You can make many plans, but the LORD’s purpose will prevail.” Proverbs 19:21

As a career-driven 20-something, I was certain my plans were rock solid. I would work my way up in the banking world, “retire” at age 45, then pastor a church for the next 20 years. Sometimes I wonder just how much God laughed at the plans I envisioned back then. I had no idea that He would move me out of banking after only 15 years to pastor a church. And I sure didn’t think He would ever move me back into the financial industry. I am both humbled and challenged as I sit here today as president of the Church Loan Fund and director of The Stewardship Group. There’s no way I could have planned this journey. God’s purpose for my life was so much more than I ever imagined. And for that, I am deeply grateful.

I am now charged with establishing plans for the Loan Fund’s future. But as we plan, we want God to lead us to become more than we could ever imagine. I believe we should pray big prayers so God can give bigger answers and make big plans so God can reveal monumental possibilities. Like the old saying goes, “Plan like it depends on you. But pray like it depends on God, because it does.”

I encourage every professional in our movement to prayerfully submit your secular plans to God. I wholeheartedly believe He wants Apostolics to impact the business community. But I also believe God uses our experiences in the corporate world as training for opportunities within His kingdom. The prophetic growth of the church during end-time revival will require highly educated administrators, kingdom-based financial entities, and Spirit-led legal experts. What if your degree is for a much bigger purpose than you ever imagined? Go ahead and make your plans but let God’s ultimate purpose prevail.

Church Highlight

Gateway Apostolic Church

“Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.” Psalm 127:1

I wish to give all glory to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior for blessing Gateway Apostolic Church with a new facility in Yorkville, Ohio. Except His hand was upon us we would not have achieved this exceptional milestone. I would also like to honor those who were led of the Holy Ghost with the vision to provide a financial source of funding for the expansion of the local churches of the United Pentecostal Church International, Inc.

Our church was looking for a new facility that would provide additional room for growth and be accessible for all of our physically challenged church family members and visitors. Gateway Apostolic Church (GAC) has been listed as a religious organization with the Ohio Secretary of State since 1941. The church had assembled at 464 Main Street in Bridgeport, Ohio since 1967 and it became affiliated with the UPCI in 1968.

Gateway has maintained a stellar financial relationship with a local bank since 1970. However, when we inquired about a loan to finance the new building purchase, we were quickly denied and told that the only way for a loan to be granted was if a member of the local church would co-sign the note and assign personal property as collateral. Needless to say, we were shocked at the response. Another local bank had issued the church a loan five years prior in order to purchase an adjacent property to the Bridgeport location. We were able to pay that property off in record time. But the history of our fiscal responsibility did not matter to the local banks.

Of course, we were attempting to purchase a newer and larger facility during the COVID-19 pandemic when many local churches were closed temporarily, indefinitely, or were joining with other congregations and leaving buildings empty. Our God has a way of showing Himself mighty in all circumstances!

We reached out to the UPCI Loan Fund for help. We were overwhelmed by the support and prompt assistance. After supplying the needed documentation, we were quickly approved for the loan and were able to close the deal on the new facility. Surely the Lord was involved in building and keeping this house.

We were able to purchase a building for a fourth of the local county appraisal value and an eighth of the insurance replacement cost. God has supplied all of the needed resources to renovate the new building to meet the functions of an apostolic church. We are grateful to God for all of His blessings.

We appreciate the great staff of the UPCI Loan Fund for all of their assistance and work, including Brother Steve Drury, Brother Rick Lovall, Brother Kevin Prince, and all the UPCI Loan Fund staff. Great job! And to the Ohio and West Virginia/Western Maryland district officials that spoke favorably on our behalf and provided great advice: Rev. James Stark, Ohio District Superintendent, and Rev. Greg Hurley, West Virginia/ Western Maryland District Superintendent, we thank you. I am eternally grateful for your efforts to see the kingdom of Jesus Christ advance in the Upper Ohio River Valley. I would recommend the UPCI Loan Fund to any UPCI church for assistance in financing.
