Another Month of Caring - June 2024

All locations of the The Caring Place are CLOSED

on Wednesday, June 19th for Juneteenth.

Dear Friends,

Welcome to summertime! Some of you will enjoy a big summer break or plan a vacation soon. And some of you will work right through the summer, just like The Caring Place. We like working through the summer. It ensures our neighbors have a place to turn when electricity bills get high and school is out for the season. The Food Pantry is open for supplementary food and Programs & Services is available for those experiencing a financial crisis. This year these services are seeing more neighbors in crisis. The year 2024 is already setting records, but that is why we are here.

It's because of you that The Caring Place remains steadfast in its mission. June marks our 39th year serving our community. Back in 1985, The Caring Place began with three bags of clothes, a few volunteers and $17 in a cash box. Through the years our community has repeatedly answered the call to help neighbors in need and The Caring Place has grown into what you see today; an organization with a bustling Food Pantry, Programs & Services offering financial relief to those in crisis, two thrift stores and over 350 volunteers supporting those efforts. In gratitude for all of your support in the last 39 years, we are once again celebrating in our thrift stores. Everything in our stores will be 39% off June 24-29 in both The Shops at The Caring Place and Second Helping.

We are expecting to begin some construction this summer which could impact Donation hours. Be sure to check our website, social media and local news for media releases soon. More to come on that bit of news. Until that press release comes out, we wish you an easy entry into the summer heat! Feel free to come stay cool in our thrift stores!

Volunteers Spring Us to Life!

Volunteers Needed!

Did you know even TCP Volunteers go on vacation in the summer? It's another reason why we need YOU as part of our Volunteer team! Sorters, pricers, cashiers and more are needed every week!

The Caring Place Volunteers make a difference in our community! They are helping others and creating a place of care and kindness where they live.

If you have a little free time, we'd love for you to join our caring team! We are now accepting volunteer applications and have regularly scheduled orientations this summer!

Ready to attend a Volunteer Orientation to get started? The first step is to fill out the Volunteer application on our website.

Fill out a Volunteer application NOW!

After completing the application, Dennis Hilgeman, our Volunteer Coordinator, will call to schedule your Volunteer Orientation attendance. Feel free to give him a call at 512-943-0708 with all of your volunteering questions or email him at dhilgeman@caringplacetx.org. We look forward to meeting you!

Donating at The Caring Place!

Donate Food

The Caring Place accepts food donations to supplement our busy Food Pantry. You can bring food donations to our drive through at 2000 Railroad Avenue, Mon-Sat, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Financial gifts allow the organization to purchase food items when it needs them and can be made at caringplacetx.org/donate. Due to space restrictions, this is a great way to help our neighbors. The Caring Place also has access to discounted food sources and is a partner of the Central Texas Food Bank, making financial gifts the most impactful way to lend a hand.

If you’d like to help the Food Pantry by having a Food Drive, contact Food Programs of The Caring Place at 512–943-0738 or email fooddonations@caringplacetx.org. Advance notice is requested so that we can make space in the warehouse. Food Drive items can be tracked for groups by bringing them to the reserved parking space during regular Food Pantry Hours. Mon, Tues, Wed, and Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Donate Your Stuff - Watch for Changes!

Our Donation drive-through is currently open the same hours as our store at 2000 Railroad Avenue, Mon-Fri, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Upcoming construction could impact the Donations drive through, so we encourage you to check our website and other media for updated information through the summer.

Item donations provide affordable necessities for our community and support our mission to provide for the basic human needs of all people in our community. Through your fabulous donations, we also raise money to help neighbors with rent, utilities, transportation and more when they have financial hardships.

Ensure you are bringing items that we can sell in our stores by utilizing our Donations Flyer. This flyer includes the things we do not take due to safety or disposal costs and can be found at caringplacetx.org/donatemystuff.

Are you donating large pieces of furniture? We have a designated pick up service area to help you with those requests. Learn more about this designated area at caringplacetx.org/donatemystuff or call 512-943-0711 to request a pick up.

Donate a Monetary Gift

The gift you give today directly impacts families struggling in our community.

Whether it's food, rent, clothing or another type of assistance, The Caring Place can only do this work with the help of generous supporters like you. We can use your gifts where we need them most to help our neighbors, or you can designate your gift to the Food Pantry.

Give today at caringplacetx.org/donate.
