Hello Upper School Families -
When I first came to Roycemore, I was so impressed with our grade report system. Having the opportunity to write comments for each of my students, as opposed to simply giving them a letter grade, was wonderful. It is so important to be able to tell students and their families about specific accomplishments and areas of improvement...happy reading!
Quarter 1 Reports
3:30pm today marks the official end of first quarter. Teachers will be hard at work this weekend completing grade reports. A few important notes for you about these reports:
-Next week, all families will receive one electronic report that includes the quarter grades and teacher comments for every class.
-Roycemore's Upper School operates on a semester basis, so these quarter grades, while important, are not the final grades that will be recorded on a student transcript. Transcripts indicate semester grades only, and these grades are comprised of two quarter grades and the final exam. Percentages may vary slightly from teacher to teacher, but semester grades are typically calculated at roughly 40% per quarter and 20% for the final exam.
-Only these semester grades count towards GPA, so the grades you will receive next week will not immediately impact GPA.
Carnival - Friday October 25th
Next Friday is our annual Carnival. The students have been hard at work setting up this wonderful event, which is staged by the Upper School students for our younger Griffins. I am proud of the work they have already put in, and look forward to seeing the final results! A few quick, but important notes on Carnival:
-On Thursday, October 24th there is a
after school set up event here at Roycemore from 2:00-4:30. Please make arrangements for your son or daughter to be here until 4:30 that day.
-Students are gearing up for the candy contest; the winning Advisory gets to have a pizza party. We need candy! Bring candy! Go get some candy, and bring it to school!
-Remind your students to be thinking about their Carnival costumes, and remember, we have Griffins as young as 3 years old who will be attending.
-Finally, all are welcome at Carnival! During the afternoon of the 26th, feel free to come by with any younger siblings, as we are proud to host this event for the greater Roycemore community.
Admissions Open House: Sunday October 27th
On October 27th from 1:00-3:00 pm, Roycemore will host a fall open house. Our Middle School personal passion projects (P3) are off to a great start! This year, all middle schoolers are connecting with a real-world problem associated with their own passion and interests, then using the Design Thinking process to design solutions to their chosen problem. We are looking for mentors to help our Middle School students with these projects. We are in need of experts from ALL fields to serve as mentors, with a particular need in the following areas: animal welfare, environmental action, community service, entrepreneurship, and technology. If you know of anyone who would like to work with a middle schooler, please ask them to fill out this form:
Adobe and Northwestern Creative Jam, November 15th
Roycemore will be the 1st High School in the world to host a Creative Jam!
Creative Jams are Adobe events where local design thought leaders share a behind-the-scenes peek into their processes and projects. Teams compete in a tournament-style event that puts their creative skills to the test using Adobe Creative Cloud products. Roycemore is proud to partner with Adobe and Northwestern University to embark on this quest to host the first Creative Jam for High School students. All Upper School Roycemore students are encouraged to participate and more information will be coming soon. What an amazing opportunity for our students!
