A solid off-season baseball training program can make or break
in-season success.

Make sure to start out your off-season with a focus on improving physical qualities that assist sports performance. Baseball players are required to steal bases, chase fly balls, run to first base, and more. This is why most players start the off-season workouts working on strength, speed, power and agility.

I urge you to take a look at Alan Ahmady's Strength & Conditioning program here at the Strike Zone.

Alan is a former professional baseball player with the St. Louis Cardinals and 2008 College World Series Champion with Fresno State. "During my time attending Fresno, I majored in Kinesiology and Exercise Science. The knowledge I obtained played a pivotal role in my playing career, as I was able to maintain health and enhance my skills through multi-directional, functional, and sports specific exercises"

It is time to think about your off-season.

Baseball is a sport where not only do you have to train to keep your body in shape during the
off-season, but you also have to maintain and improve your skills of the game. We hope that you will use the Strike Zone for your off-season training. Be sure your regiment includes:
SPEED - STRENGTH - CORE
Make sure you are on a good off-season training program for both strength and speed focusing on your legs and core. This fall is the time get on a strength and conditioning program to restore some of the muscle balance that a player loses over the course of a season. Baseball is a very lop-sided sport and most injuries occur due to muscle imbalances.

DEFENSE
Maintain and improve hand eye coordination. Fielding fly balls/ground balls on a consistent basis is important in keeping your eyes and body sharp.
HITTING
Hit often. Hitting is one of the most difficult skills in any sport. You can't take months off at a time and expect to jump right back into your old hitting form. The tee is the best hitting tool out there. Try to hit 2-3 buckets of balls focusing on different locations in the strike zone. Remember, quality and not quantity. Take your time and focus on keeping a consistent swing. Do not jump in there just to see how many baseballs you can hit. You have to get your technique to where you need it, get repetitions with that technique, THEN look to incorporate that muscle memory into more of the “reaction” type drills like front toss, overhand BP and live pitching.
THROWING
Maintaining a healthy arm is very important. You need to maintain a steady throwing program to increase arm
strength and prevent injury.

 PITCHING
Pitchers need to realize that you need to establish a progression of throwing before you begin “pitching.” Too many kids come to team practice in January and haven’t picked up a baseball since fall and are looking to start pitching workouts. It doesn’t work that way. The best players (and those looking to minimize the risk of injury) need to spend 4-8 weeks  building arm strength and conditioning those intricate muscles used mostly by overhead throwing athletes before even thinking about stepping on the mound.
