$7 Million in Infrastructure Funding for Parksville Fire Station Renovations
The City is excited to announce a $7 million grant through the Strategic Priorities Fund. The City is using a combination of grant funding from this stream, the Growing Communities Fund, the Community Works Fund, and reserves to improve and upgrade the Parksville Fire Station without impacting tax rates for residents.

The renovation project will include additional fire truck bays, a dedicated exercise room and dormitory space for firefighters, and improved equipment storage, all designed to be resilient in a post-disaster situation. This project will make sure firefighters have safe, functional, and reliable spaces to operate from during emergencies, while upgrading a facility that’s built to withstand the growing call volume and demand of the community.
The Strategic Priorities Fund is a federally funded program supports infrastructure projects that are beyond the financial capacity of a single local government, under the Build Communities Strong Fund (BCSF) Community stream in BC.

Information for Voters
All voters will register on the day of voting, at either advance voting or on general voting day. When arriving to vote, you will be required to provide two pieces of identification; one containing your name and address, the other containing your name and signature. If you do not have documentation showing residency, then two pieces of identification (with at least one with a signature) are still required and you will be required to make a "solemn declaration" as to your residency.

Non-resident property owner information
If you are voting as a non-resident property owner, the property must be in the name(s) of individuals and not in the name of a company. If you own property in the City of Parksville, but live somewhere else in British Columbia, you may be eligible to vote as a non-resident property elector if you:
- Are a Canadian citizen; AND
- Are, or will be, 18 years of age or older (October 17, 2008) on or before general voting day; AND
- Have lived in BC for at least 6 months (as of April 16, 2026) prior to registration; AND
- Have owned the property in the City of Parksville for at least 30 days before you register to vote (as of September 16, 2026); AND
-
You must not be eligible to register as a resident elector in the City of Parksville; AND
-
Are not disqualified from voting by the Local Government Act or any other act.
In addition to two pieces of acceptable identification, non-resident property electors must bring the following with them to vote: proof of ownership in the form of a tax notice, assessment notice or other legal documentation proving property ownership, such as a bill of sale issued prior to September 16. Non-resident property electors can only vote once, regardless of the number of properties they own in the City of Parksville.
Election information will be posted regularly to Let’s Talk Parksville through to the election on October 17.

All open burning, including campfires, are banned in the City of Parksville and the surrounding fire protection area, until further notice. Thank you for continuing to respect the restrictions in helping to reduce human-caused fires.
The fire protection area includes the City of Parksville and portions of Regional District of Nanaimo Area G, which includes the French Creek areas bordering the City to the edge of the fire protection area at Johnston and Drew Roads, San Pareil, Fourneau Road, Wildgreen Road, and Martindale Road areas.

With little to no rain forecast for the coming weeks mixed with continued drought conditions, it’s important to remember level 4 water conservation measures and what you can do to reduce your water use.

Level 4 - Guide to Getting it Right
Level 4 helps to ensure the community’s essential water needs for drinking water, hygiene and fire protection are met, and water flows for fish and aquatic habitats are maintained.
Outdoor watering
All lawn watering activities are NOT permitted. Vegetable gardens and fruit trees are exempt from restrictions. Between 7 am and 10 am OR 7 pm and 10 pm, drip irrigation or micro irrigation and hand watering of gardens is permitted using a hand-held container or a hose equipped with shutoff device.
Washing of vehicles, RVs, boats, and buildings, filling of pools
Between 7 and 10 am OR 7 and 10 pm on assigned watering days, vehicles, RVs and boats may be washed using a hand-held container or hose equipped with shutoff nozzle. Washing of exterior building surfaces is not allowed UNLESS prior to application of paint, preservative, stucco, or sealant. Filling of swimming pools, wading pools, hot tubs, and garden pond water features is not permitted.

City Efforts in Reducing Water Use 💧
As part of Level 4 Water Conservation, we’re making changes to the way we water trees, gardens, and grass throughout the City.
⚠️ DYK: there are 355 irrigation zones in Parksville
- 105 zones (30%) will be completely shut off
- 146 zones (41%) will be modified to reduce water volume usage to 50%. These areas include garden beds, shrubs, and sensitive trees.
- 46 zones (13%) on our sports fields at Springwood and Parksville Community Park will reduce water volume use by 25%, with a surfactant being applied to the turf to help retain soil moisture.
- 56 zones (16%) will be unmodified as they are on drip or micro irrigation systems.
We’re trying to do our part while maintaining the beautiful gardens and green spaces throughout the City. We hope you will try and do the same!

Alberni Highway Project - Minor Delays
Construction work is continuing along the Alberni Highway between Bernard Avenue and Lee Avenue. Two-way traffic is the priority, but single-lane alternating traffic will be necessary at times. Traffic will be controlled in all directions for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians.
City Crews Plant Thousands of Flowers in Parksville
Our staff have planted about 11,000 annual flowers, bringing splashes of colour in several areas throughout Parksville. Getting much of the planting attention at this time of year is the Pym Street garden and Parksville Community Park as well as downtown Parksville. While planting annuals, crews work hard to spruce up shrub and flower beds, mow, and refresh plant material where needed. Plants are chosen based on deer resistance, watering needs, colour/tone, and depend on site-specific conditions.
This years’ Pym Street flower bed is the Royal Canadian Legion poppy in honour of their 100-year anniversary. We hope you’re able to enjoy these spaces as much as we are!

New Pickleball Courts are Ready for Play - The City has completed the conversion of existing tennis courts in Parksville Community Park into four dedicated pickleball courts, including fencing upgrades. Thank you to everyone for your patience and cooperation during construction, and for following posted signage and respecting closed work areas throughout the project. Parksville Pathway Project Update - The City is currently working through permitting and timelines with the province, however we don't have any updates or timeline estimates at this time. Please check back on Let’s Talk Parksville for future updates.
