Wood Chipping Program                      

Our wood chipping program will take place April 7 through May 2. The City is divided into two zones - west and east of Craig Street; properties west of Craig will receive collection between April 7 and April 17 and properties east of Craig are scheduled between April 22 and May 2. Questions about the program should be directed to ops@parksville.ca or 250 248-5412.

 

 Materials must be at curbside by 8 am on:

Next Steps in Parksville’s 2025-2029 Financial Plan

The next meetings related to the City’s 2025-2029 financial plan are outlined below. We encourage residents to attend the Committee of the Whole meeting on April 9 to provide input on the amended plan. 

April 7 - Introduction of recommended amendments to financial plan and analysis of BC Assessment Revised Roll

April 9 - Committee of the Whole to discuss amendments and direction from Council on

property, water and sewer rates

April 23 - Regular meeting - motions forwarded from April 9 meeting

April 28 - Tentative meeting date if required for further deliberation of amended financial plan and rates bylaws

May 5 - Three readings 2025-2029 amended financial plan bylaw and 2025 water, sewer and property tax rates bylaws

May 7 or 12 - Final adoption of 2025 amended financial plan and 2025 tax rates bylaws


Final 2025 property tax rates and utility rates for the City of Parksville will be set during this schedule of meetings. The forecasted rate increases for 2025 were 7% for property taxes, 6% for water fees and 6% for sewer fees, which will result in an increase of about $175 for an average residential property. Property tax notices will be mailed by end of May, following adoption of the financial plan and property tax rate bylaws. Documents and staff presentations may be viewed on Let’s Talk Parksville

REMINDERS AND THINGS WE'D LIKE YOU TO KNOW

We’re excited to host Canada Day celebrations in Parksville again this year and hope you will share in the day’s festivities. 2025 is Canada’s 158th birthday, the City of Parksville turns 80 and as part of our celebrations, we will recognize the Mount Arrowsmith Pipe Band as they celebrate 50 years.


Let’s Talk Parksville details what we have planned so far, just more of everything! Live music at the Parksville Outdoor Theatre from noon to 6.30 pm with Vancouver Island bands, entertainment and activities at the gathering plaza from 1-9 pm, and much more. Elevator Upgrade – Parksville Civic and Technology Centre

The elevator in the Parksville Civic and Technology Centre will be out of service until April 18, undergoing substantial upgrade. During this time, should residents require assistance from staff working in offices on the second floor, arrangements will be made for staff to meet with residents on the main floor. Appropriate signage will be placed at the elevator.  

Ravensong Aquatic Centre Expansion Referendum

On April 5 eligible electors from the City of Parksville, Town of Qualicum Beach and Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) Electoral Areas (EA) E, F, G and H will decide if the RDN can borrow up to $30 million to expand Ravensong Aquatic Centre. General voting day is Saturday, April 5, from 8 am to 8 pm. Refer to this link for locations.

Water Conservation Level 1 in April allows for watering of lawns between 7 pm and 7 am, any day of the week. Vegetable gardens and fruit trees are exempt from restrictions. For details about the City’s water conservation program, refer to Let’s Talk Parksville. 

Recycle BC pop-up depot in Parksville will continue through 2025, accepting free of charge, flexible plastic packaging, white and coloured foam packaging, glass packaging and paper packaging and cardboard. Materials may be dropped off from 10 am to 3 pm at 1080 Industrial Way. For dates and info visit Recycle BC website
