The Next Driver Enforcement Blitz Just Around the Corner |

From GNJMA Gold Sponsor, Lancer Insurance's Safety Blog: Law enforcement officers will be on the lookout for commercial motor vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers engaging in risky driving behaviors during the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Operation Safe Driver Week, scheduled for July 11-17. Identified unsafe drivers will be pulled over and issued a citation or warning.
While the emphasis of this year’s event is speeding, enforcement personnel will also be watching out for drivers following too closely; driving distracted; driving recklessly or aggressively; failing to obey traffic control devices; making improper lane changes; failing to use a seat belt; and driving while impaired. CERTS Grant IRS Taxability Information |

Tracy Fickett, from GNJMA member, BUSBooks shared the following information. The IRS has released information on its website regarding the taxability of CERTS grants. The short answer is the grants are taxable and the expenses related to the grants are deductible. Visit the IRS website.
How exactly that affects your company depends on several things. Cash basis reporters may have a more significant impact to their tax returns as the receipt of the grant may be in one tax year and some of the expenses may fall into a different tax year. This may or may not be an issue depending on the size of the CERTS grant received and how long it takes your company to spend it. Accrual basis reporters match the revenues with the expenses minimizing the potential two-year effect. Amid Record-Shattering Heat Wave, Tire Safety Is Crucial |

“Excessive heat will cause tires to wear more quickly and will exacerbate any pre-existing conditions,” said Bill Kaiser, President of GNJMA member, Motorcoach Tire Sales of Columbus, Georgia.
He recommends motorcoach operators check air pressure frequently during the summer heat because tire pressure increases as the outside air temperature rises.
“For every 10-degree increase in air temperature, tire pressure increases by 1 PSI,” Kaiser said. “Overinflation can cause a bus tire to prematurely wear and interfere with braking.”
He recommends that while checking air pressure, operators should also frequently check tire tread depth during the hot days of summer and be prepared to replace tires as needed. Read more...

CERTS Portal Closes July 19th! Get Your Applications In! |

The CERTS portal will be open for applications through July 19, 2021. To be considered for a CERTS grant, an application must be completed, electronically signed, and submitted through the portal by 11:59 PM ET on July 19. After the deadline, the portal will not accept new applications, and users will not be able to finish draft applications in the portal. Need help? Email CERTS@treasury.gov for assistance.
