Summer Camp 2025 is drawing to a close!

Dear Milagro Mentor,

With just 2 weeks remaining of our 10-week full-day camps for our STARS and Jr. Teen/Teen Leadership students, the summer sure has been sizzling! Each day is filled with learning, exploration, amd discovery through our STEM hands-on sessions, Art projects, Music classes, and fun weekly field trips - not to mention the emphasis on continued learning and improving reading and math skills. STEM projects included "wind cars", making ice cream (using salt to change the melting point of ice), and building catapults. The STARS have boarded the bus and explored the Cox Science Center, the Palm Beach Zoo, Delray Beach Playhouse, the Coconut Cove Water Park, and other fun destinations.

A special shout out and acknolwedgment to the SouthTech Prep and SouthTech Academy language arts and math teachers who lead academic classes each day during our summer camp for our middle and high school students, ensuring that they return to the new school year on track and ready to learn. Props also go to our many collaborating partners this summer who provide continuing enrichmemt activities including "The STEM Squad" from American Heritage Academy, the YMCA of South Palm Beach County for their continuing swim lessons at our pobol, and Youth for Soccer.

Summer camp for STARS will end with a full-day field trip for to Legoland in Orlando on 8/7. The Jrs. and Teens are planning a summer bash party to celebrate a fantastic summer. Our afterschool program for the 2025-2026 school year begins on Monday, August 11th.

For those of you who are planning upcoming vacations, please remember to stay in touch with your mentees. They miss you! You can send cards, call, do Facetime or Zoom. Check with me if you do not have contact info for your mentee or mentee’s parent.

Mentoring helps meet the basic human need of letting young people know they matter and are not alone.

Help your Mentee Develop Their Social, Emotional, Intellectual, and Physical self!

Here are 8 activities and ideas

to help your Mentee excel!

Teach Each Other : Let your mentee plan to teach you something they are knowledgeable about. This could be a hobby, a skill, or a subject they enjoy.

Scrapbook a Dream Trip : Choose a place you both want to visit, gather pictures and fun facts, and create a scrapbook or travel guide together. This activity encourages creativity and research skills.

Language Learning : Learn a new language together, such as Spanish or Sign Language. Teach each other new words or phrases at each session.

Show and Tell : Both you and your mentee can bring in photos or items that are important to you. This fosters sharing and communication.

Goal Setting : Help your mentee set personal goals and create a timeline for achieving them. Discuss what they want to accomplish in the next few years.

Board Game Creation : Collaborate to create your own board game. This can involve designing the game, writing rules, and playing it together.

Book Reading : Choose a book to read together, discussing its themes and characters. This can enhance literacy skills and encourage a love for reading.

Creative Writing : Start a story together, taking turns to add new twists and turns. This encourages creativity and storytelling skills.

Is your mentee having problems learning to read? Learn about ways to help, including engaging apps and fun ideas. Help for 5-7 year old readers
