Congratulations to our graduating seniors!

Celebrate with us this Sunday, May 3, as our youth group leads worship! This is a great opportunity to hear from a wide variety of voices as they make the big step from high school to college. These students have grown up at Woodmont and are looking forward to your advice, support, and encouragement on this very special Sunday that only comes once a year.

Our schedule this Sunday is:

  • 8:30 AM – Continental breakfast in the gym
  • 9:30 AM – Informal worship in the sanctuary
  • 9:40 AM – The Bridge service in the chapel
  • 11:00 AM – Traditional service in the sanctuary

Groundbreaking ceremony for Family Life Center is May 17

Mark your calendars for a big day in the life of our church! In between services on Sunday, May 17, we will officially break ground on the old Campbell West property at 10:45 AM. Everyone is invited to join as we dedicate this new space to growing our mission and expanding our ministries in Woodmont's next chapter.

Lamar Alexander "The Education of a Senator" May 27

Woodmont and Parnassus Books are pleased to present an evening with Lamar Alexander to celebrate his new book, The Education of a Senator, in conversation with Clay Stauffer. This free event will take place at Woodmont on Wednesday, May 27, at 6:30 PM in the sanctuary, with doors opening at 5:30 PM. Books will be pre-signed and Senator Alexander will have a signing line directly following the conversation on stage where you can get your book personalized.

The book is a behind-the-scenes story of the last sixty years of American politics, told with purpose and humor by a political legend who worked with ten presidents, made deals with both Obama and Trump, and believes that serving in public office is the best way to help the largest number of people and to keep our Republic from falling apart.

This is a free event, but because space will be limited, a ticket is required to attend. Please click the button below to register. Signed copies of The Education of a Senator will be on sale at the event.

If you are planning to attend dinner at 5:30 PM, click the button below! The registration is separate for tickets as we will welcome a large outside audience via Parnassus Books.

Farewell to the Parsonage!

by Clay Stauffer

I want to thank everybody who made a pledge on Commitment Sunday to support Woodmont’s budget for another year. If you haven’t, we STILL need your help to raise our operating budget. Again, this is different from the capital campaign. This supports our ongoing mission, ministry, and operations. You can click here to make your pledge online

I was first called to Woodmont in the summer of 2007. I moved to Nashville, single, with a golden retriever and U-Haul full of belongings. The parsonage, “Campbell West,” became my home and it was a bachelor pad with a massive wooden deck and mismatched furniture. Megan and I met and started dating in the fall of 2007. We were engaged in 2008 and married May 16th of 2009. She moved in after the wedding. My men’s group moved her furniture over while we were away in St. Thomas on our honeymoon. I’ve always joked that her dream throughout medical school was to one day live in a parsonage.

Our two oldest children, Montgomery and Clayton, were brought home to the Parsonage where they lived their early years attending WCPS. It was our family’s home for 7 years until we became pregnant with Wade and moved out in March of 2016 to our current home. It was a bittersweet goodbye. The parsonage, “Campbell West,” has served Woodmont well over the years. We all have special memories at that house, especially my family. Young adult gatherings, Christmas parties, cookouts, Bible studies, family events, wine tastings, Leadership Woodmont meetings, outdoor worship during Covid, it’s all happened there! In the coming days, this house will come down to make way for a new family life center that will serve our church for generations to come. This new building will be spectacular and will transform our corner. As we read in Ecclesiastes 3, “for everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven.”

Thank you, Campbell West, for the many memories! Thank you for being our family’s home! We are excited to look ahead to what the future has in store!

Beginning Sunday, May 17, Woodmont's Executive Pastor, Jay Hutchens, will lead a 7-week group discussion on the book The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry by John Mark Comer.

Come for honest conversation, practical rhythms, and a renewed sense of peace. All are welcome! Meets from 10:45 AM to 11:30 AM in Room 232 (main hallway across from Youth Room).

The Ten Commandments for Today

Since the Ten Commandments are in the headlines – debate over whether to put them in school classrooms – we ought to know what The Ten Commandments are and how they speak to our society today.

You’re invited to join a Bible Study and discussion on the Ten Commandments during the months of April, May, and June.

Time: 9:30- The Disciples Sunday School Class (Room 105) and 11:00 – The Reflections Class (Room 200)

Both classes will deal with the same lesson – one of the Ten Commandments each week. The two times are offered depending on which worship service you attend.

Life Together!

by Jay Hutchens

I remember a small group that met in Susan’s and my home every Tuesday night. We had a few students from Union University who were attending our church plant in Jackson, along with some older, more seasoned believers — and plenty of people in between. We shared a meal, watched a short video clip on the TV in our living room, and then gathered for conversation around what we had just heard.

It didn’t take long for those conversations to become real.

Almost every week, someone brought something they had experienced and was looking for wise counsel. Sometimes people simply needed a space to say out loud what they were wrestling with — questions about God, faith, sin, forgiveness, relationships, hurt, love, and healing.

That group became a powerful sounding board for discerning what God might be doing in our lives. Over time, it became something even deeper: a family.

Susan and I still hear from people who sat in our living room during that season. One couple later walked through a painful divorce. One brilliant young woman made an incredible journey and became an Anglican priest. Others have simply continued living faithfully and discovering new communities in which to express their love for God.

Whenever Susan and I feel uncertain about how God is using us in the present, we often look back on that season and remember that meaningful faith formation happened right there in our living room.

“Community is like the incubator for our spiritual formation,” writes John Mark Comer in Practicing the Way.

He follows that with a quote from Joseph Hellerman:

“Long-term interpersonal relationships are the crucible of genuine progress in the Christian life. People who stay also grow. People who leave do not grow.”

What would it look like to stay with a group of people for a season — to walk together through joys and sorrows, victories and challenges, exciting moments and ordinary routines?

At Woodmont, we call these communities Life Groups.

Most Life Groups meet monthly in people’s homes. They may share a meal or light refreshments. Sometimes they choose a book, Bible study, or topic to discuss. But more than anything, they are creating space for friendship, encouragement, prayer, and genuine spiritual community.

One of our church’s priorities in 2026 has been helping more people connect through Life Groups. One simple way we’ve introduced this is through our Dinner for Eight groups.

As people gather around a meal, we encourage them to ask three simple questions:

  1. How has your month been?
  2. Where have you seen God at work?
  3. How can we pray for you?

The conversations that grow from these questions remind us that our stories matter — and that God is actively at work in our lives.

We’d love to help you become part of a group like this. Here’s a quick-start guide:

  1. Think of eight people you’d enjoy making a spiritual journey with over the next year.
  2. Reach out and see if they’d be interested.
  3. Choose a regular meeting time (for example, the first Monday night of each month).
  4. Pick a discussion topic—or simply use the three questions above.
  5. Set your first meeting date.
  6. Have everyone bring a snack or drink.
  7. Use paper plates and cups to make cleanup easy.

That’s it — you’ve started a Life Group.

Larry Crabb writes in Connecting:

“Ordinary people have the power to change other people’s lives.”

Just imagine God doing that work through you.

Tammy Morgan and I would love to help you get started. If you’re interested in forming a Life Group, feel free to reach out to me at jayhutchens@woodmontcc.org or Tammy at tammy@woodmontcc.org,

Blessings,

Please join the Prison Ministry Team as we hear from Becky Griffith, a longtime Woodmont member who has served extensively with Green Street and Walk Thru Bethlehem.

Becky will share her personal testimony of God’s faithfulness as a survivor of kidnapping and physical assault. Through her experience, she has become a voice of hope—not only for victims of trauma, but also for those who have caused harm and are seeking redemption.

Her guiding scripture is: “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded…” — Gospel of Luke 12:48

Join us in the Boardroom on Tuesday, May 5 at 5:30 p.m.
