Pastor Trudy's Message

Did they remember what God had done in leading them out of enslavement in Egypt? We meet the people of God in the desert, which is not where they expected to be after being led out of Egypt. Moses has seemingly disappeared and God’s people are growing anxious. Moses’ brother Aaron makes a quick decision- he makes a golden calf, offers burnt offerings and sacrifices, and declares a festival. We like to laugh at their foolishness in worshipping these obvious idols. How does it change our response if the people actually thought they WERE worshipping God?

Holy and Mighty God, idols are easy to identify in the lives and worship of others, but our own are not so simple. Open our hearts to see places where we’ve exalted something, maybe even a very ‘good’ thing, over our praise and worship of You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  • Keep our hearts and minds focused on your love, and our lives focused on caring for creation and loving our neighbors.
  • Help us to care faithfully for creation, ensuring all can thrive. Help us to listen to those who’ve been caring for the earth for years, and to make changes in our lives to be better stewards.
  • Where there is conflict, bring peace and understanding. Where there is division, bring compassion and light.
  • Lift up support systems and draw near to those who face anxiety, depression, and all other forms of mental illness. Help us to reduce their stigma and help people to access the care that they need.
  • Disrupt our routines and expectations, and help us to take hold of the new life that you give us each and every day.
  • Those impacted by Hurricane Helene
  • Those living through the current conflict in the Middle East

These and all our prayers we lift up to you, O God. Amen.
