Greetings!
The youthful courage and determination we see in the young climate activists today reminds us of a time when we were young and passionate about the causes that mattered most to us. As elders, we can now draw on our passion and wisdom as we join youth this month for the Global Climate Strike on September 20th and the Week of Climate Action that follows it.
On September 20th people of all ages will strike or take action, telling the world that it is time for immediate, bold action to solve the climate crisis. Youth will be walking out of schools and striking, joined by teachers, parents, grandparents as well as adults from the labor movement, science and faith communities.
This will be the LARGEST GLOBAL CLIMATE ACTION EVER!!
I implore you to join where you can either at a strike location or by taking action from your own home. Go to
Strikewithus.org
and join an action near you. If there is none, reach out to friends and find a public space to meet with your climate crisis signs. If you create an event, put it on the map for others to join you. Now is the time we must all stand up for the sake of the youth, grandchildren and all future generations. If you do nothing else, please forward this newsletter to your friends and family and ask them to step up on September 20th.

On September 20, Come Strike With Us!
|
|
Elders Climate Action is proud to be a partner in the September 20 Global Climate Strike. Students and young people are demanding action to address the climate crisis — and they are walking out of their classrooms to make sure they’re heard.
Millions of people across the globe will take to the streets to demand their right to a future. We elders will join our grandchildren, children, nieces and nephews, and the youth in our community in this critical intergenerational climate action effort and demand a livable planet for the grandchildren, future generations and all life.

We're Preparing for the Week of Climate Action, September 20 - 27
We are calling on YOU to help amplify the Elder voice as we join with the youth and many other climate organizations across the globe between September 20 – 27!
We have created a list of actions you can do each day of the Week of Climate Action. We realize that you may not be able to do every action, every day but we encourage you to do what you can for climate action this week! We hope you will find ways to take actions that you are able to do given your location and level of ability.
We encourage all of you to act on climate regularly, but this week let’s really ramp up our efforts!

Grandparents Day is Coming!
Help Support ECA
From Margo Frank, Communications Committee Co-Chair
If you are on Facebook, you may have noticed that you can create a fundraiser really easily. In honor of my daughter’s birthday recently, I decided to create a fundraiser, noting that all the good work she does to make the world a better place could be wiped out by climate change. I invited friends and relatives to donate and was astonished when almost $400 was collected for Elders Climate Action.
Grandparents Day will be on Sunday September 8th this year. We hope you’ll consider creating a Facebook fundraiser honoring the work of so many grandparents who are Elder Climate Activists or honoring the grandchildren you cherish. All you have to do is click on the
CREATE
tab in the top right hand corner of your Facebook page, then click on
FUNDRAISER
in the drop down menu. Choose Non-profit as the category you are raising money for and type
Elders Action Network
(our parent organization) in the search bar, then select that non-profit.
We are a bare-bones, all volunteer organization and appreciate whatever you can give- whether it be your time, your talent, your treasure or your willingness to create a FaceBook fundraiser!

Tell us what you have been doing for climate action. Send a 150 word (max) summary of what you've been doing and we'll share it in a future newsletter. Send to

Make 2020 the Year of the Environmental Voter!
A recent analysis of nation-wide elections shows that over 15 million individually identifiable environmentalists don’t regularly vote. This is a problem for advancing sound environmental policies. It is also a huge opportunity. The key to getting powerful environmental policies in place might not require persuading millions more Americans to be environmentalists; it may be as simple as getting more of our existing environmentalists to vote.

Working with the Environmental Voter Project (EVP), ECA had some success contacting and turning out environmental voters in 2018 election. Based on that experience, the two organizations are launching a formal partnership –
Elders Promote the Vote (EPTV) - to reach millions of environmental voters with a get out and vote message leading up to the 2020 elections. The goal of
Elders Promote the Vote: engage at least 200 volunteers who will make 2 million voter contacts and generate at least 10,000 additional pro-environment votes. We need help to strengthen the pro-climate, pro-environment voice.
This is a nonpartisan project and is purely a get out the vote campaign. Join us at the next volunteer training and get started!
