Hot Toddies for Halloween Night...Curl up and watch a scary movie!

A nice bourbon is delicious with the cider, but you can easily work with any whisky or brandy you have on hand. Be sure to take these off the stove as soon as they’re warmed to your liking; if you keep simmering the drink, the alcohol will begin to cook off.

8 ounces whisky, bourbon, or brandy

6 tablespoons honey

2 lemons

4 cups apple cider

4 earl grey tea bags

4 cinnamon sticks

In a small pan over medium-low heat, heat the cider, cinnamon, honey, and whisky until hot, stirring to dissolve the honey. Remove from the heat, add the tea bags, and allow the drink to steep for 2 minutes. Remove the tea bags and squeeze in the juice of half a lemon. Pour into four glass mugs. Garnish with the cinnamon sticks and some lemon slices cut into half moons.

It's the perfect warmth on a Montana chilly evening with friends or curled up with a good book (or a scary Halloween movie)!

Denise's Halloween Reading Recommendation-Practical Magic by Allice Hoffman

Practical Magic is about the Owens sisters, Gillian and Sally, who were orphaned at a young age and taken in by their eccentric aunts. The aunts, like all the Owens women for the past 200 years, have a reputation of being odd and a little witchy.

The setting is a town in Massachusetts (probably not far from Salem) and the drama begins by the towns people shunning the entire Owens family, believing that the women are responsible for every terrible (or even mildly inconvenient) thing that happens.

As adults, Gillian and Sally part ways, escaping the town to find better lives, but circumstances draw them back together. I suggest you give the book a shot if you’re wanting to read a book about witchcraft that isn’t a horror or a romance.

Practical Magic became a movie in 1998, three years after the book was published. It stars Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Stockard Channing, Dianne West, Aidan Quinn, and Goran Višnjić. If you are looking for some Halloween fun, why don’t you curl up with my Hot Toddy recipe (above) and pull up "Practical Magic" for Halloween! You can find it on HBO Max until November 30.
