JUNE RECAP, HIGHLIGHTS AND MORE
2ND ANNNUAL YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH NIGHT: (CLICK THE TOP PICTURE TO WATCH THE RIDE MN RECAP VIDEO) WOW!! What an amazing turnout for the 2nd Annual Youth Mental Health Night at MDC! We want to thank our partners at Fairview Range and all the volunteers, vendors and attendees for making this year's event a HUGE success! Special shoutout to our friends at Ride MN for an amazing stunt show - Mega Jump Motivational Experience! We are so grateful to see this event grow beyond our expectations and we cannot wait to see what next year brings! Together, we can foster healthier communities and support networks that not only help individuals and families lead happier and healthier lives, but help diminish the stigma surrounding mental health. We look forward to continuing this important work with our community partners and stakeholders long into the future!
NATIONAL CENTER FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT: We were excited to welcome back Bruce Martens Director of the National Center for Youth Development (NYCD). Bruce took the NCYD kids on a trip to ride the range on their mountain bikes, which included a stop at the beautiful Redhead Mountain Bike Park. Headquartered in Minneapolis working with national, state, and local stakeholders in youth development, the NCYD connects kids with their communities, from birth to adulthood.
INTERNATIONAL MOUNTAIN BIKING ASSOCIATION: The International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) held their annual board meeting at the Minnesota Discovery Center (MDC) last month. MDC welcomed board members from across the country as a part of the multi-day visit. We were honored to share our story and show them around the MDC campus and Redhead Mountain Bike Park.
UMD INTERN CHECK IN: MDC Intern Brandon Butkovich is keeping busy! Check out this cool creation he is posing next to. The cardboard creature is a 90-million year old representation of an Ammonite and is a part of our 'Crafting with Cardboard' Exhibit' now open Tuesday-Sunday through September. Besides helping keep the exhibit spaces clean for our visitors, Brandon helps operate our water recreation shuttle that provides transportation to visitors renting canoes and kayaks to explore the award-winning
Redhead Mountain Bike Park.
ALL STAFF TRAINING: Last month, we held our annual all staff training and covered multiple topics including workplace stereotypes and emergency response protocols, but it wasn't just business, we had a chance to enjoy some good food and each others company. We have such a wonderful staff!
DALE CARNEGIE GRADUATION: Last month, MDC served as the host location for a Dale Carnegie Skills for Success Training. The event was put on by the Hibbing Area Chamber of Commerce and five MDC employees took the training, which is valued at over $10,000! We wanted to congratulate all of the participants and graduates and thank the Dale Carnegie team and Hibbing Chamber of Commerce for making this amazing opportunity possible for our staff!

Finally...Bittersweet Goodbyes
Mara Brownlee Farewell Party

Mara Brownlee's public service at the Minnesota Discovery Center.

We said our final farewells to Mara Brownlee, our former Sales and Events Specialist. Mara devoted 9-years of her life to organizing and coordinating events for our clients which includes families, companies, and nonprofit organizations from throughout Minnesota and across the country. Her dedication and passion for her job was inspiring and we are certainly sad to be loosing her, but we are excited for her as she embarks on a new journey.

Here's a few words from Mara, "After almost 9 years at the Minnesota Discovery Center, I am closing this chapter in my life. I have grown so much in this position and couldn’t have asked for a better way to start right out of college. For now, I think I’ll take the month of July off and enjoy some time (especially weekends) with my boys as a stay-at-home mom. Then we’ll see where life takes me! I’ve had so much support from everyone, especially Forrest (Mara's husband) as I make this transition. Adventure is out there!"

FROM ALL OF US AT MDC, THANK YOU MARA FOR ALL YOU'VE DONE! <3
