Escape the Noise: Why Camping Is Still the Ultimate Getaway
Camping isn’t just about sleeping under the stars — it’s about slowing down, unplugging, and reconnecting with nature (and each other). Whether you’re a seasoned camper or planning your first outdoor escape, a little preparation can turn a simple trip into an unforgettable experience.
🏕️ Smart Tips for a Better Camping Trip
- Plan ahead, but stay flexible. Research your campsite, check the weather, and pack essentials — then leave room for spontaneity.
- Keep meals simple. Foil-packet dinners, pre-cut ingredients, and hearty snacks make camp cooking easy and fun.
- Comfort matters. A good sleeping pad, proper lighting, and bug protection can make the difference between roughing it and relaxing.
- Respect nature. Follow Leave No Trace principles so everyone can enjoy the outdoors for years to come.
🔥 Campfire Moments to Remember
Some of the best camping memories happen after sunset — sharing stories, roasting marshmallows, and enjoying the quiet glow of the fire. Bring along a few fun or spooky campfire stories to make the night extra memorable, especially if kids are along for the adventure.
🌄 Why More People Are Camping Than Ever
From national parks to hidden local gems, camping remains one of the most affordable and rewarding ways to travel. With rising interest in outdoor experiences, now is the perfect time to rediscover what makes camping so special.
Ready to pack your bags? The outdoors are calling — all you need to do is answer.

A Fresh Start: Welcoming the New Year
The New Year is more than just a change on the calendar — it’s a powerful reminder that fresh starts are always possible. It’s a time to pause, reflect on where we’ve been, and look ahead with hope and intention.
As the clock strikes midnight, we close one chapter and open another. The past year may have brought challenges, growth, lessons, and moments of joy. Each experience, good or bad, has shaped us and prepared us for what’s next.
Reflect Before You Reset
Before rushing into resolutions, take a moment to reflect:
- What moments mattered most this past year?
- What lessons do you want to carry forward?
- What habits or mindsets are you ready to leave behind?
Reflection helps turn experience into wisdom — and wisdom into progress.
Setting Intentions for the Year Ahead
Rather than focusing on strict resolutions, many people are choosing to set intentions — goals rooted in balance, well-being, and growth. Whether it’s prioritizing health, nurturing relationships, learning something new, or simply slowing down, small intentional steps can lead to meaningful change.
A Time for Hope and Possibility
The New Year invites us to believe in possibility. It reminds us that every day is a chance to begin again, to try something new, and to move closer to the life we want to build.
As we step into the year ahead, may it be filled with clarity, courage, and moments worth celebrating — both big and small.
Here’s to new beginnings and a year full of promise. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year from the staff at Nelson's Outdoor Resort!

On Christmas night, the woods don’t sleep—they listen.
Snow stitched the pines together in silver silence, and the moon hung low, like it was eavesdropping. Mira’s boots crunched along the trail, each step echoing louder than it should have. She told herself the sound was just the cold. Or the cocoa she’d spilled on her scarf, now frozen into a sweet, sticky reminder that she was definitely lost.
“Great,” she muttered. “Eaten by a festive forest.”
That’s when the lantern appeared.
It bobbed between the trees, warm and gold, far too steady to be a star. Mira stopped. The woods stopped with her. Even the wind seemed to hold its breath.
“Hello?” she called, instantly regretting it.
The lantern moved closer, revealing a man in a dark coat dusted with snow, holly tucked behind one ear like he’d lost a fight with a wreath. His smile was crooked and cautious, as if he’d practiced it on strangers before.
“You’re off the trail,” he said. “The woods like to do that on Christmas.”
“Of course they do,” Mira said. “Why wouldn’t they?”
He laughed—quiet, but real—and some of the tension slipped from her shoulders. “I’m Rowan. I was checking the old path. You’re lucky I found you before the bells did.”
“The… bells?” Mira asked.
Right on cue, a sound drifted through the trees. Soft at first. Tinny. Like sleigh bells, but wrong—too slow, too deliberate, as if whatever rang them was counting steps.
Rowan’s expression shifted. “We should walk.”
They moved together, close enough that Mira could feel his warmth through their coats. The bells followed, sometimes ahead of them, sometimes behind, never quite visible. Shadows stretched unnaturally long, bending around tree trunks like curious fingers.
“What are they?” Mira whispered.
Rowan glanced at her. “Old stories say the forest dresses up on Christmas. Tries on memories. Sometimes it pretends to be kind.”
“That’s… not comforting.”
He smiled again, softer this time. “You’re doing great.”
Strangely, she believed him.
They reached a small clearing where an ancient cabin leaned under snow like it had grown tired of standing. Light glowed in the windows. The bells stopped.
Inside, the air smelled of pine and oranges. A small fire crackled. Rowan set the lantern down, and for a moment the world felt normal—almost cozy. He handed her a mug of something warm and spiced.
“To not be eaten by festive forests,” he said.
She clinked her mug against his. “A Christmas miracle.”
Outside, something brushed the cabin walls. Not hard. Just curious.
Mira met Rowan’s eyes. “So… does this happen every year?”
“Only when the woods think someone needs help,” he said. “Or company.”
Her heart did a small, reckless thing. “And you?”
He shrugged. “I stay to make sure people find their way back.”
Snow began to fall harder, wrapping the cabin in quiet. Whatever lurked outside seemed to lose interest, drifting back into the dark with its bells and borrowed magic.
When morning came, the trail was clear again. Rowan walked her to the edge of the woods.
“Will I see you again?” she asked.
He smiled, that careful smile. “Next Christmas,” he said. “Or sooner, if you get lost on purpose.”
As she stepped into daylight, Mira swore she heard bells—but this time, they sounded almost happy.

What is happening around Nelson's, you ask?
We have some exciting changes taking place. You will soon see some cabins and Yurts in the seasonal camping area. They will be short-term rentals, glamping at its finest.
We want to apologize for all the construction mess, but it will be completed soon.
You will find the new office, future store, and live bait around where the old bar building sits on the River.
What is a yurt?
A yurt is a traditional, portable dwelling that has been used for thousands of years by nomadic peoples of Central Asia, especially in regions like Mongolia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Designed for life on open grasslands, yurts are easy to assemble, disassemble, and transport, making them ideal for communities that move with their livestock.
Structurally, a yurt consists of a circular wooden lattice wall, a roof made of poles that meet at a central ring, and layers of felt or fabric covering the frame. The circular shape helps the yurt withstand strong winds, while the felt insulation keeps it warm in winter and cool in summer. A central opening at the top allows smoke from a stove to escape and lets in natural light.
Today, yurts are still used in traditional ways, but they have also become popular around the world as eco-friendly homes, guest lodgings, and camping accommodations. Modern yurts often include updated materials and amenities while maintaining the simple, efficient design that has made them successful for centuries.

Scams Are Evolving — Stay Alert in 2026
Scammers are more active and sophisticated than ever. In 2025, people across all ages are seeing an increase in digital fraud, AI-assisted scams, and impersonation schemes designed to steal money and personal information. Experts warn that these tactics are costing consumers billions and growing year after year.
What Scams Are Trending
✔ Money-mule schemes on social media — Criminals recruit young people online with “easy money” job offers that end up laundering stolen funds.
✔ QR code scams (“quishing”) — Scammers trick victims by placing fake QR codes in public places or online to redirect phones to malicious sites that steal data.
✔ Imposter scams — Scammers pretend to be trusted organizations or government agencies to pressure you into sending money or sharing sensitive details.
✔ Account takeover & digital fraud — Reports show a rise in hackers accessing people’s online accounts to steal funds and personal data.
✔ Financial scams from strangers — From fake investments to bogus insurance and pension offers, scammers are targeting people with convincing “too-good-to-be-true” opportunities.
Practical Ways to Protect Yourself
Here are key steps readers can take to reduce their risk:
🔒 Guard Your Personal Information
Never share Social Security numbers, bank passwords, PINs, or verification codes with someone who contacts you unexpectedly — no matter how official they sound.
📞 Verify Before You Trust
If someone calls or texts claiming to be from a bank, government agency, or company:
- Hang up and call the official number listed on their website.
- Don’t use a phone number or link provided in the suspicious message.
📩 Be Skeptical of Unsolicited Contact
Scams often begin with a cold email, text, or social media message promising money, rewards, or urgent action. Do not click on unexpected links or attachments.
- Use strong, unique passwords for each account.
- Turn on multi-factor authentication (MFA) whenever possible.
👀 Teach Loved Ones
Scammers frequently target older adults and young people differently — make sure your family and friends know the warning signs and talk with them about current scam trends.
⚠️ Trust Your Instincts
If an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Scammers rely on urgency, fear, or excitement to push you into quick decisions.
Where to Get Help
If you think you’ve been targeted:
- Report it to the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
- Contact your bank immediately if money or account details have been compromised.
By staying informed and cautious, we can reduce the impact of scams and protect our money and information. Share this info with your community — awareness remains one of the best defenses.
If you want, I can tailor this for a specific audience (seniors, students, small business owners, etc.) or format it for print/HTML!

As the year comes to a close, it’s a natural moment to pause and reflect—not just on what we’ve accomplished, but on where we want to go next. Year-end goals aren’t about pressure or perfection; they’re about clarity, intention, and ambition.
Ambition gives direction to our efforts. It’s the quiet drive that pushes us to learn, improve, and aim a little higher than we did before. Looking back at the year helps us recognize growth we might otherwise overlook, while looking ahead allows us to reset priorities and refocus our energy. Even small goals, when chosen thoughtfully, can build momentum and confidence.
This time of year also represents new beginnings. A new year offers a fresh start—a chance to leave behind what no longer serves us and embrace new possibilities. It’s an opportunity to redefine success on our own terms and approach challenges with renewed perspective and optimism.
Setting year-end goals works best when they’re realistic and meaningful. Instead of focusing only on outcomes, consider goals that emphasize progress—developing a new skill, strengthening habits, or committing time to something that truly matters. These goals create a foundation for growth and open the door to positive change.
As we step into a new year, ambition doesn’t have to mean doing more; it can mean doing what matters most, with purpose. With reflection, intention, and a belief in new beginnings, we give ourselves a clear path forward—and the motivation to begin again.
The staff at Nelson's wishes you a fabulous, healthy, and satisfying year to come.
Welcome 2026!
