Dear CRC,
It might be cliche to reference the Olympic Games right now, but I'm just going for it (cliche, metaphor, and shameless tourist are all my middle name). I don't know about all of you, but I definitely enjoy watching the athletes on screen, cheering for the home team, and watching the special interest stories. I love how commercials for things like phone companies and skin care become feel-good, overcome-obstacles, infomercials. It feels like we are all in this together.
I've used the term "team" to describe our CRC volunteers for as long as I've been here and it is so true. Each of you may have a different role to play, a different strength, a different program you support. But you are each a part of our team, pulling for each client's well-being and triumph. This summer we have even brought in some new players, ready to jump in while our regular teammates are taking a breather. A special thank you to our FNC summer subs and students supporting our truck drivers this month!

Subaru Carlsbad hopes to regularly volunteer with our new Saturday Produce Distribution on the second Saturday of each month. Their first shift was Saturday, July 13th. They all had a great time serving clients who came in for fresh produce and assorted canned items. From organizer Don Elliot: "Subaru is all about Sharing the Love, and I can’t think of a better way than by being able to volunteer at your food bank and help members of our community. So, on behalf of Luis Bautista, Manny Morataya, Vanessa Moreno, Daniela Alecio, and Sydney England, we thank you for allowing us to be a part of your family for one day and Sharing the Love!" Baker Tilly - Food sort and FNC Deep Clean | |

CRC was pleased to partner with Baker-Tilly, an advisory tax and assurance firm, during their Stewardship Week on July 31st. They pushed up their sleeves and sorted food at our warehouse, and also deep cleaned our food pantry. This was their first time partnering with CRC and they are excited to return next year! When asked why he showed up to help out, Baker-Tilly staff person Derrick said, "It just makes sense...people have helped me out when they didn't know me, and so I want to give back and help others however I can."

Hope for San Diego showed up in force on Saturday, July 20th, sending teams to both our Food Pantry and our Encinitas Store to deep clean and organize. They brought lots of hard work, fun and enthusiasm to the job! We love to see all ages and stages making it a priority to serve their neighbors. Thank you! Kudos on the cool bucket hats too! Congratulations to CRC's Volunteer of the Month Kathy Urbanic!
From volunteer colleagues Laura Tarabini, Gayle Patterson and David Hall: Kathy's been a regular volunteer as a food sorter in the back for several years on Mondays.
Mondays can be quite busy, with drop offs from local farmer's markets, and the two-day weekend donations from the stores. Kathy is quick and efficient in sorting what comes in, and gets things done quickly. On days where donations are overwhelming, she helps determine how to get things done in the most efficient way. And I think the rest of the Monday team would agree with me that she's a delightful coworker!
Kathy also volunteers each year during the point-in-time homelessness count in January and for the CRC Holiday Baskets program.

The fall is bringing many events and opportunities for volunteers to get involved! We have events on October 5th and December 5th, and Holiday Baskets scheduling will begin in September. Keep an eye out for emails and posts regarding needs as they become open for scheduling. | |
Truck Driver Support Needed For Fall | |

CRC is looking for volunteers to ride along with our Truck Driver on Wednesdays, and as subs for when our regular volunteer team members are unable to do a shift. This is an early morning shift that requires some heavy lifting. Our drivers pick up food donations from local grocery stores which stocks our Food Pantry. Be a part of this incredible team! We can accommodate one-time volunteers as well as long-term volunteers for this. To learn more, contact the CRC Volunteer Manager.

Are you a group of 5-15 looking for a way to partner in CRC's mission? There are currently Food Pantry and Resale Store group opportunities available on some late afternoons and weekends. This may include deep cleaning, sorting, or stocking items. A cleaner Food Pantry allows our clients to have a more dignified shopping experience. And a clean store makes happy customers!
