On This Day In History - July 3rd
1844
A cruel irony finishes off a large penguin-like denizen of the North Atlantic, the great auk, when their dwindling numbers increase the desire of collectors to get their hands on one to stuff and put on display. The last known pair is killed on Eldey, an island off the coast of Iceland.
1885
A three-wheeled vehicle, the Benz Patent Motorwagen is the first automobile built to be propelled by an internal combustion engine, and its inventor Karl Benz presents it publicly for the first time in Mannheim, Germany. Benz will go on to help co-found the Mercedes-Benz car company.
1913
The Great Reunion gathers veterans of the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg 50 years after the US Civil War's bloodiest battle was waged. More than 53,000 camp on the Pennsylvania battlefield site, and a reenactment of Pickett's Charge ends in clasped hands between the former enemies.
1940
. Britain destroys French ships to keep them from Germany
With France in the hands of the Nazi-collaborating Vichy government, Great Britain launches an air-and-sea attack to prevent the Germans from capturing a flotilla of battleships and other French Navy armaments. In the scuttling, 1,200 sailors die and three battleships are destroyed.

Since 1983!
A not-for-profit cooperative association of independent businesses, founded from an economic development research project on the
importance of small business development conducted by the
Houston Chamber of Commerce in the late 1970's.

With our first Co-Op meeting held March 14, 1983, to date we've worked with 51,484
people, generating 44,170 tips, leads, referrals and items of new business, generating revenues exceeding one billion dollars, founded the Entrepreneurial Development Center - Houston's first and Texas' oldest small business incubator and co-working space, First Houston Small Business Seed Capital Fund - literally the first small business seed capital fund in Houston, the Womens Business Center - first business incubator for women business owners in the country with residency space and the Virtual Business Center - the first remote business incubator in the world - all totally without public funding, grants, gifts, donations or contributions.

Co-Op companies have won virtually every award for business growth in Houston, some nationally and some even internationally.

Our Entrepreneurial Research Division conclusively demonstrated "entrepreneurship" could be taught in a classroom environment, resulting in colleges and universities, globally,
commencing entrepreneurial courses.
