Upper School News
Hello Upper School Families -

It's Carnival planning time! Here you can see Upper School students choosing which booth they will be responsible for at our annual Carnival. What makes Carnival so special is that it is an entirely student-run event! Led by a team of Juniors and Seniors, all Upper School students work incredibly hard to put on quite the immersive experience for our Middle and Lower School kiddos. On Friday October 25th, they get to enjoy a multitude of games, contests, and even a Haunted Maze! I am continually impressed by the hard work, patience, and dedication to our school community that my Upper Schoolers exhibit at Carnival each year. It really highlights how special it can be to have children ages 3-18 in the same building!

Please see below for some pictures of another fun all school activity. Today, in honor of our 104th Birthday, the entire student body gathered on the lawn to create the number 20. An all school picture was captured by drone, piloted by a team of Upper School students! Wonders shall not cease. Go, Go class of 2020!!!

Please see below for more upcoming events and information.

Volleyball Senior Night -Thursday
Come one, come all! Please join us as Seniors Cara Marantz, Rachel Cico, and Sooliat Bakare play their last home game of the regular season....a bittersweet celebration, to be sure. Game time is 4:30pm @ Roycemore Gym.

PSAT Test - Wednesday, October 16
The PSAT will be administered during school hours on Wednesday, October 16. This standardized test is designed for 8-11th grade students and allows them to practice skills for the SAT and ACT. It also allows qualified 11th graders to earn national recognition and scholarships. You do not need to take any steps to register for this test.

Note that online education site Khan Academy (a great online free resource for most subjects) now offers free online test prep for the SAT and PSAT. Check it out here:  https://www.khanacademy.org/sat .

Great America Fright Fest - Friday, October 18
All Upper Schoolers are invited to join our Fright Fest outing on October 18. Students will depart Roycemore at 4:15PM. We will return to Roycemore for parent pickup at midnight. Questions? Contact me! [email protected]

January Short Term
All students should have received an email from Mr. Horine this past week including a link to the JST contract. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Horine at whorine @royemoreschool.org .

Adobe and Northwestern Creative Jam, November 15th
Roycemore will be the 1st High School in the world to host a Creative Jam!
Creative Jams are Adobe events where local design thought leaders share a behind-the-scenes peek into their processes and projects. Teams compete in a tournament-style event that puts their creative skills to the test using Adobe Creative Cloud products. Roycemore is proud to partner with Adobe and Northwestern University to embark on this quest to host the first Creative Jam for High School students. All Upper School Roycemore students are encouraged to participate and more information will be coming soon. What an amazing opportunity for our students!

Interested in hosting a high school exchange student in October?
Through our educational partner, Faces & Our Cultures, students from Guatemala come to attend our school and stay with host families for about 2 months. There are several students interested in coming, however, there are no host families for them yet. If you are interested, please email  [email protected]  to learn more.

Please see below for a few reminders:)
