It’s finally March, and although spring has not yet sprung there is plenty of fun to be had in Durham Region. Whether you're looking to immerse yourself in community arts and culture or longing to satisfy an outdoor adventure itch, there are plenty of events taking place in and around March Break.

Sweeten up your March with a Maple Syrup Festival
One thing you can expect to see this March in Durham Region is an abundance of maple syrup festivals. Sugarbush demonstrations, wagon rides and maple syrup samples are some of the many family friendly activities to enjoy at the following maple syrup festivals.

The Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival in Oshawa, runs March 13 to 15, 18 to 22, 28 to 29, and April 4 to 5 from 9:30 a.m. to noon or noon to 2:30 p.m.
Pefferlaw Creek Farms’ Maple Syrup Festival runs weekends starting March 14 to April 5 , from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Uxbridge.

From March 19 to 22 , Willowtree Farm in Port Perry will be hosting Maplefest . Try the maple sap or watch how authentic maple syrup is produced.
The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority will be celebrating Maple Syrup Day on March 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. For one day only, bring your whole family and experience a MapleValley tour, Sugar Shack demos, live music and a pancake feast. Games, crafts, storytelling and face painting will also be available.
Sunderland Maple Syrup Festival is celebrating their 25 th year from April 4 to 5 .

Celebrate music in Oshawa
The 19 th annual Oshawa Music week is taking place from March 30 to April 3 . Check out these upcoming events:

Beginning March 1 , the Oshawa Music Awards’ Best Songwriter(s) and Durham Song of the Year nominees are available for public voting. The awards will be handed out April 4 , live at the Music Hall in Oshawa.
March Break activities in Oshawa
March Break fun in Durham Region!
March Break falls on March 16 to 20 this year, and Durham Region has many
cost-friendly events and activities to keep your child entertained. The following events run from Monday to Friday.
Neb’s Fun World in Oshawa will be offering half-priced admission on all rides on from 9 to 11 a.m. only.
For history buffs, the Oshawa Museum will be welcoming a feature guest each day from noon to 4 p.m., including tours and a variety of themed activities.
Get outside with Dagmar Ski Resort in Uxbridge. The resort is hosting March Break Camp Mornings from March 16 to 19. Each morning includes a two-hour lesson and practise 'til 4 p.m.
Kids’ Safety Village Durham will be hosting, March Break Madness, spreading safety awareness in a fun, one-day camp environment. Event details pending.
The Roaring Railway 20's Party
Travel to the past with a nostalgic train party
Relish in a night of glamour at the Roaring Railway’s 20’s Party. This Great Gatsby inspired event will give you the chance to reminisce on a York-Durham Heritage Railway train in Uxbridge.

On March 28 from 6:30 to 11 p.m., guests will be served dinner with a champagne toast on an immovable train. Dancing, live music and casino games will be available in heated tents outside.

Make it a weekend getaway and book a room at one of the many neighbouring bed and breakfasts or inns.
Robert McLaughlin Gallery
Art through the eyes of a child
While the Robert McLaughlin Gallery is a place for all ages to unite and appreciate art, this month the gallery has scheduled a variety of child-friendly events.
On March 8 , OPG Sundays offers free art activities from 1 to 3 p.m.
The Holi Festival of Colour on March 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. celebrates the spring Hindu festival through dance, food and artmaking.
The gallery will open its doors during March Break and provide professional art instructors for fine art camps. Kids will have access to a variety of activities and playtime from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Canvas Kids runs on Thursdays from March 26 to April 30 (4:15 to 5:45 p.m.); offering children the opportunity to learn painting and mixed media techniques.

at the theatre
Whether you are an avid theatregoer or simply looking for a night out on the town, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels should be on the top of your March to-do list. A tale of two travelling con men rivaling for the same object of affection, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is sure to keep you laughing all evening long.

The show runs from March 19 to 29 and April 3 to 4 at Oshawa Little Theatre. Tickets start at $18.
Celebrating the Durham Region 2019
Ontario Parasport Games success
On February 6, the 2019 Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO) Awards of Excellence were announced at the 63 rd Annual Conference & Showcase. 
The Games have also been selected as a finalist for the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) Canadian Sport Event of the Year Award and CSTA Sport Event Legacy of the Year Award.

The country music buzz in Durham Region  
Get those cowboy boots out; Durham Region has plenty of country music concerts happening this spring to get those feet moving. You can catch these concerts at the Tribute Communities Centre in Oshawa:
  • Kane Brown with Chris Lane and Russel Dickerson on March 20 at 8 p.m.
  • Miranda Lambert with Cody Johnson and LANCO on May 7 at 8 p.m.

While Durham Region has many options for quenching your thirst with a cold, refreshing pint, check out these Irish pubs for St. Patrick’s Day on March 17 .
Sham Rock’s Pub & Grill House in Whitby is the go-to place for open mike sets, karaoke and live bands and DJs. Don’t forget to bust a move on the dance floor or try out some of your Irish dancing moves.
