During the last week of January, the Wyoming Health Council participated in one of the first ever, virtually implemented OPA Site Reviews. Our team did an amazing job over the past few months gathering all of the information and data requested and preparing to engage in discussion with the OPA Review Consultants. The Wyoming Health council will receive and review the details in a few weeks and are already putting into action the suggestions made. We are looking forward to strengthening our Title X program here in Wyoming!

Health Care Actions and Executive Actions to Keep Your Eye On
|
|
"As Wyoming’s designated Title X Grantee the Wyoming Health Council applauds President Biden’s efforts to rebuild the Title X network.”
On January 28, President Biden signed an executive action rescinding the Mexico City Policy, also known as the global gag rule. This policy, which was reinstated by the Trump administration, bars international nongovernmental organizations that provide abortion counseling or referrals, from receiving U.S. funding. Not only did women and girls around the world loose access to contraception, resulting in more unplanned pregnancies; funding for HIV/AIDs , childhood nutrition programs and TB and malaria programs were also all at risk under this rule. This executive action aims to "protect and expand access to comprehensive reproductive health care."
Under the actions announced on January 28th, the President also signed a presidential memorandum which directed federal agencies to review the Trump-era domestic gag rule that limited the use of Title X federal funds meant for family planning and reproductive health services for low-income patients. Under this program, organizations that provided abortions or abortion counseling could not have access to those federal funds. Over 1,000 clinics left Title X, including Planned Parenthood, leaving 1.5 million people nationwide without access to Title X services, for whom many used as their main source of health care.
The White House stated that, "Across the country and around the world, people — particularly women, Black, Indigenous and other people of color, LGBTQ+ people, and those with low incomes — have been denied access to reproductive health care." This is a great start, but much still needs to be done to insure that Title X is reinstated to it's full capacity. The National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA) and their allies continue to work closely with the Biden Harris Administration to insure that the necessary steps are taken quickly as possible to rescind the Trump rule and return Title X to its previous compliance standards.

We will continue to enhance outreach efforts to underrepresented populations lacking resources, adolescents and LGBTQAI+ community member to name a few.
