At CASA Lake County, we believe every child deserves a voice—including children with developmental disabilities. March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, and a little known fact is that children with disabilities are more likely to experience abuse or neglect, or that navigating the child welfare system can be even more overwhelming for them?
That’s where our CASA volunteers make a difference.
Our CASA volunteers help by:
· Advocating for specialized services: Our volunteers advocate for children to receive the educational and medical support they need.
· Providing stability: A trusted CASA volunteer can be a comforting, familiar face in a child’s life.
· Giving a voice: Volunteers work closely with teachers, doctors, and caregivers to make sure each child’s unique needs are met.
This month, we celebrate the dedication of our CASA volunteers who stand up for children, and highlight the need for volunteers for children with developmental disabilities.
We also celebrate our community (you!) for your support of our mission.
But, our work is not done. We currently still have 26 children waiting for a CASA volunteer. Please help us to be able to serve all of the children on our waitlist by sharing this volunteer opportunity with someone you know. Word of mouth is our best recruitment tool!
