The Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation
2020 Year-End Fundraising Letter
President Linda Price
Dear Friends,

As President of the Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation one of my responsibilities is to write the year-end fundraising letter. The task seems particularly daunting this year because so many people have been negatively impacted by the pandemic---lives lost, finances and businesses ruined, children and youth deprived of the many benefits of attending school, families going hungry. Others have been hit hard by nature---hurricanes, tornados, fires. With all the needs out there, it is really hard for me to ask for your help. But your support is instrumental in our mission to support the Queens and our commitment to a university and basketball program that gave each of us so much.

Giving thanks for others
As we approach Thanksgiving and the holiday season, I encourage you to focus on all of the many things small and large for which you are grateful---hugs, laughter, smiles, golden memories, family and friends and a myriad of other blessings. With this in mind, the Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation would like to provide an opportunity for you to give thanks for someone important to you---a teammate from your days as a Queen/Queen Bee, a family member, a colleague, a former teacher, your best friend, or whomever you choose.

At our HFQF golf tournament, we give people the opportunity to purchase a tribute sign and these signs are posted around the greens and later displayed in the club house. We had to cancel our annual golf tournament due to COVID-19, so instead of tribute signs we thought we would post your TRIBUTE NOTES in an upcoming FLYING HIGH NEWSLETTER and on Facebook.

Please keep your tributes to 40 words or less. Example for me: “I am grateful for Lana Graf Ballou, my Wayland roommate who forced me to get out of bed and get to our 8 o’clock classes on time, my Flying Queens teammate, my life-long friend.” If you are able, we would appreciate a donation to the Foundation in honor or in memory of the person(s) that you name.

Still supporting the Queens
Fortunately, the HFQF has been able to continue our efforts to support the Flying Queens by providing program enhancing experiences and products. The fundraising we are doing now will include helping send the Queens to a tournament in Hawaii in December 2021 that will provide national exposure. In 2020, our support has included purchasing “Just Play Scouting Service” software license for Coach Alesha Ellis and her assistants to aid them in their recruiting efforts. We also presented each player and coach with an individualized “Champion Award” standup plaque following the announcement that the 2020 National NAIA Tournament had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. The Queens were on target to take the 2020 National Championship home to Wayland had they had the opportunity to play.

A call to action
If you would like to be a part of such efforts to support the Queens, either by giving back to a program that so richly blessed your life or by paying it forward in support of helping young women get an education while playing a sport we all love, please send a donation today.

The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization so your donation is tax deductible.* Since its founding in 2012, the Foundation has given over $82,000 in support of the Queens. The HFQF has recently expanded its mission to also include preserving the past and securing the future of the program. We are currently working on securing a permanent exhibit in the Wayland Museum for Flying Queens history and memorabilia and on a Legacy Gift program to underwrite the efforts of the Foundation to preserve the past, enhance the present, and secure the future of Flying Queens Basketball. Please join us in these efforts! Knowing that your generosity benefits another person or an organization you believe in is a satisfaction that cannot be measured in dollars and cents. Anything you can give to ensure the Foundation’s support of the Queens is greatly appreciated.
