DID YOU KNOW?

On October 9th, every dollar raised at our Gala will go directly to our scholarship endowment at the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro. Because it's a restricted endowment, your gift is protected and works year after year, funding the Lessons for Life Outreach Program. That means financial aid and merit scholarships for students of all abilities and backgrounds (37 merit scholarships were awarded this year!), plus music programs and activities that reach our broader community.

One fabulous night with a lasting impact.

Music changes lives, and we believe that everyone deserves access to learn it, play it, and enjoy it. Lessons, instruments, and music books all add up, and for some families, that cost is the difference between a child discovering their voice and never getting the chance. Our Gala exists to help close that gap. Every dollar raised goes toward scholarships and financial aid that keep talented, passionate students learning. When a student receives support, they gain more than lessons. They gain confidence, discipline, friendships, and a lifelong connection to the arts.

The funding also lets us look beyond our own walls. Through community outreach, we bring music to people who might not otherwise encounter it: children in local schools, families at the public library, and free events at MANC or off-site that are open to everyone. These programs plant seeds that grow for years, and they strengthen the cultural life of the entire community.

An evening of celebration becomes an investment in the next generation of musicians, teachers, and audiences. Plus, you get to see performances by our amazing merit scholars and artist faculty! When you join us, you're not just attending a party (though we promise it will be a good one), you're helping make sure the music keeps playing for everyone.

Lessons for Life Gala

October 9 at 6:45p

The Colonnade at Revolution Mill

Another opportunity to raise money for our endowment — for just $25, you could walk away with a full semester of lessons valued at $691. That's a pretty great return on a ticket. Want better odds? Grab 5 tickets for $100 and give yourself a few extra shots at the prize. Whether you've always wanted to learn an instrument or want to gift lessons to someone you love, this is your chance to make some music while making a difference.

Adults: Crafted Just For You

Adult Social

Sunday, October 4

5:00p

MANC Performance Hall

Part recital, part party. Come to play, come to listen, or just come to mingle. It's a relaxed evening of music, snacks, and conversation, where the only pressure is deciding if you should eat some more cheese.

It's a great way to meet fellow adult students, swap practice or performance stories, and find your musical community. Thinking about starting lessons yourself? This is the perfect low-key way to check out the vibe and see that you'd be in good company.

Adult Ukulele Class

Wednesdays: 10/21 - 12/2

7:00p - 8:00p

Allen Recital Hall

Cost: $108

Are you jealous that your kids get to learn ukulele in school? Get ready to show them how it's done. We'll get you playing right away, even if you've never touched an instrument or read a note of music.

By the end of your first class, you'll be strumming two or three simple, fun songs. From there, we'll keep adding new chords and songs together, building a strong foundation and having a great time along the way.

Tuning Up for Fall

Symphony Opening Night

Saturday, October 3

7:30p

Tanger Center

In partnership with the Greensboro Symphony, MANC friends, families, and faculty are offered discounted tickets (only $20!) for premium seats for all Bank of Oak Ridge Masterworks concerts.

World-renowned pianist Jeffrey Biegel will be playing opening night. You can purchase tickets in person at the Greensboro Symphony box office at the Greensboro Cultural Center at 200 N. Davie Street, Suite 301 or call 336.335.5456 ext.224.

Student Showcase Recitals

Sunday, October 4

12:30p, 2:00p, 3:30p

MANC Performance Hall

Every student, on every instrument, gets a moment to shine. This is their chance to share what they've been working on, whether it's a first song played start to finish or a piece they've polished for months. It's the payoff for all those practice sessions (and the gentle reminder to go practice).

There's nothing quite like watching a student's progress come to life. And my favorite part? That smile of pride when they complete their piece! Performing builds confidence, resilience, and a real love of music, and it gives families and friends a front-row seat to the growth. Come cheer on our students. Applause is always in tune.

Jazz Workshop

Sunday, October 11

2:00p - 3:30p

MANC Performance Hall

Free to the public

Our free monthly jazz workshop series is getting a little bluesy this month. We're digging into the roots of it all. Lead teacher Evan Campfield will show you how the blues evolved. The three main tunes for all variations in form that we'll be focusing on are "C Jam Blues" with Oscar Peterson's classic swing, Thelonious Monk's "Blue Monk", and Charlie Parker's "Blues for Alice". ("Billie's Bounce", "All Blues", and "Blue Lights" may join the conversation, too.)

We hope you'll come out and jam with us. Don't forget that if you attend 3 of the 4 workshops (remaining dates: 10/11, 11/8, 12/13) in this series, you'll be entered to win a 45-minute private jazz lesson!

Halloween Recitals

Saturday, October 31

11:00a, 12:30p, 2:00p

MANC Parking Lot

Our much-anticipated open-air Halloween recitals are coming. If you haven't been, close your eyes and imagine incognito instructors, ghouls on guitars, pixies playing piano, and scarecrows singing.

I've seen a T-rex with its short little arms perform beautifully on piano, and Wednesday Addams play the keys with an extra hand (Thing!). True story. So sign up to play, show up in costume, and give me something cool to talk about next year!

Have I seen our Jazz Department Chair and avid jazz pianist Matt Reid, play with both his hands and feet? Maybe not, but some of those sounds sure seem like more than two hands are hitting the keys to me!

Matt's love for jazz is evident, whether he's playing with The Gate City Jazz Trio or leading a jazz concert discussion at Collective Groove (MANC's musical meetups for adults) or jamming with faculty and community in our free monthly jazz workshops. Check out a few of Matt's influences below (and Bugs is worth a listen, too).
