THE BLACK CARD
BIG MAMA SAID:
YOU NEED TO CALL A SPADE A SPADE
AND END THE GAME!
|
By Terry Allen
If Lucille “Big Mama’s Allen had lived her prime during this new digital season, then her rules of thumb taken out of her playbook would be trending every week. It would be a bestseller. Today, she would say, “My Baby Boy, (that is what she called me), be very aware of someone who appears helpful and belonging but they are really very dangerous and powerful with no skin in the game. You have to call a spade a spade, baba”

By Marian Wright Edelman
The funerals for the 10 Black community members who were murdered while grocery shopping in Buffalo on May 14 are not even over — but it happened again. This time, children. Thursday should have been the last day of school and the start of summer vacation for teachers and students at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The Grandmother of Juneteenth, Ms. Opal Lee of Fort Worth, was honored at Sunday’s WNBA Dallas Wings game at College Park Center in Arlington.
The 95-year-old Lee, known for her walks across the country in an effort to get Juneteenth designated as a national holiday, sat courtside right next to the Wings bench. She was honored before the game against the Seattle Storm with a customized “Juneteenth” jersey emblazed with the No. 19 on the back. She also took photos with both the Wings and Storm players. Lee visited the Wings practice earlier in the week as well.

Lydia, a former U. S. Air Force weapons specialist, also is an NAACP local, state and national executive, an entrepreneur, civic leader, and board member of various City of Duncanville organizations.
TOPICS:
The two leaders will discuss whether the National Rifle Association’s hold on many conservative federal politicians may have led to the federal Senate’s refusal to pass gun control laws and the nation’s current increase in gun violence and mass shootings. …Ft. Worth’s Jubilee Theatre executives also will discuss their upcoming Juneteenth Weekend activities and the current play “If Pretty Hurts…”. TUNE IN WEDNESDAY AT 11AM on FACEBOOK or blogtalkradio.com

Dallas residents ‘fed up’ with gunshots, violence linked to bars
City officials say two Greenville Avenue bars are connected to a homicide, two aggravated assaults, a sexual assault, two criminal mischiefs and one charge related to discharging a firearm.
A shooting last weekend on Greenville Avenue renewed safety concerns and reupped calls to shutter two bars, which community leaders say are nuisances and linked to recent crimes. Residents of the Old East Dallas entertainment district say the usual partying, loud music and loitering at OT Tavern and Bar 3606 — two bars that share a building in the 3600 block of Greenville Avenue near Mockingbird Lane — has escalated to gun violence, leading to restless nights and anxiety for neighbors.

The Path
As we walk through life's journey, we leave footprints. Some just show where we are going. Others redirect us when we get lost. Still others remain to guide those we leave behind. I see your footprints.
Will you/they see mine?
