Over One Million Vehicles Stolen Each Year

Once every 43.8 seconds a vehicle is stolen in the United States (according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) (NHTSA); and more vehicles are stolen in the summer than at any other time. This equates to more than 1 million vehicles stolen in 2022. For this reason, NHTSA hosts National Vehicle Theft Prevention Month in July. There is good news: the theft rate in Florida has been decreasing over the last few years, going from 196.2 thefts per 100,000 in 2018 to 138 thefts in 2022 (NICB Vehicle Theft Data). There are several actions you can take to help prevent your car from being stolen, these include:

  1. Parking in well-lit areas
  2. Closing and locking all windows and doors
  3. Hiding valuables out of sight
  4. Not leaving your keys in your car
  5. Not leaving the car while it is running
  6. Calling law enforcement, and then your insurance company immediately if your car is stolen

Americans with Disabilities 34th Anniversary

Thirty-four years ago, on July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law; a civil rights law prohibiting discrimination against people with disabilities in numerous areas of life, including employment, school, transportation, and public and private places that are open to the public. This law aims to ensure that all people with disabilities have the same rights, opportunities, and access as everyone else.

The ADA National Network has a toolkit with many resources, including a calendar of events, ways to celebrate and share the 34th anniversary of the ADA, and ADA training courses and webinars. Online training courses and webinars include topics such as ADA employment requirements, an overview of disability rights, digital web accessibility requirements (from WCAG 2.1 and 2.2), and Title II: accessibility for state and local government-funded facilities. For more information on ADA training opportunities and an ADA Tool Kit click here.
