Redwood City Public Library wishes you a very happy and healthy December, however you celebrate the winter holiday season. Below, we've highlighted ways to celebrate at the Library and throughout the community this month.

FOR KIDS / PARA NIÑOS

Winter Traditions Storytimes / Celebraciones a tu alrededor

 

From December 15-19, our storytimes will feature books about holiday celebrations from around the world (and near you!). Afterwards, storytimes will take a break from Monday, December 22 through Sunday, January 4, 2025.

Winter MakerClub / MakerClub de invierno

Join us at the Downtown Library Makerspace from December 22-January 2 for Winter MakerClub! For kids ages 3 to 13, drop in and create winter themed projects. New projects will be available daily. All children must be accompanied by an adult

  • Mondays 10am-1pm
  • Tuesdays 1:30pm-4:30pm
  • Fridays 10am-1pm

Join the VRV Trio - Rick Vandivier, Mason Razavi, and Hristo Vitchev - as they perform their favorites from the jazz canon alongside familiar holiday tunes.


Open Makers: Festive Edition

THU DEC 4, 11, 18 - 6pm

Working on last-minute holiday gifts or decorations? Need a private space to wrap a gift? The Makerspace and available tools (sewing machines, Cricut machines, and 3D printers) are open for you to create during these Thursday evening sessions.


Vida y Cultura: Decoraciones de Temporada

SAT DEC 13, 10am

¡Entra en el espíritu festivo con una sesión práctica de manualidades en el Espacio Maker! Acompáñanos para crear tus propias decoraciones únicas. Este taller es todo sobre creatividad, comunidad y celebración.

STUDY BREAK WITH A THERAPY DOG

Teens!


On Tuesday, December 16 at 3:30pm, take a break during finals week and unwind with therapy dog, I.V. Mateo! Join us in the Teen Center for some tail-wagging fun, cuddles and relaxation to recharge before hitting the books again! In partnership with AMR San Mateo County. For grades 6 to 12.

Hometown Holidays

Hometown Holidays is back! This festive day includes:

  • Food and craft options
  • Santa’s Village hosted by the Redwood City Parks & Arts Foundation filled with RCPL storytimes, cookie decorating, letters to the North Pole, hot cider and plenty of cozy winter feels
  • Live performances and holiday music with Sound Union
  • Carnival rides
  • The annual holiday parade
  • A traditional tree-lighting

Winter Wonderland & Merry Marketplace

SAT DEC 6, 5-8pm

Join us for an enchanting winter evening filled with cookie decorating, bouncing on inflatables, and enjoying a cozy hot cocoa station. Don't forget to bring your camera—Santa will be there for photo opportunities! You can also visit our Merry Marketplace, where young ‘kidpreneurs’ will be selling their holiday creations, perfect for holiday shopping. The marketplace is free for all to attend, but you'll need an Activity Band to participate in all other activities. Toy & Book Drive

Public safety agencies in San Mateo County, including the PAL Center, City of Redwood City Fire and Police Departments, have teamed up to bring smiles and holiday spirit to children in need through the Annual Holiday Toy & Book Drive. Ways to participate:


  • Sign up your family: Families wishing to be added to the Toy & Book Drive must sign up by December 4. All sign-ups must be done in person at the Fair Oaks Community Center at 2600 Middlefield Rd. Questions? Call 650-780-7500 for help.
  • Donate toys: Donate new toys and books. Drop off barrels are located at the Downtown Library.
  • Wrap toys: Bring your friends and family to help us wrap toys and books for families in our community. Monday, December 15th, 4pm–8pm. Location: Red Morton Community Center (1120 Roosevelt Ave)

Looking for the perfect, unique gift this holiday season? Look no further - the Friends of the Redwood City Public Library bookstore at the Downtown Library sells honey produced by our bees! Each year, the bees produce hundreds of pounds of honey, which is then harvested and packaged for sale. This batch is as delicious as ever.
