Disaster SEP Available for Some Florida Counties

Individuals impacted by Hurricane Eta in Florida are eligible for an SEP. It runs through March 31, 2021. Impacted counties are shown below. Counties in bold are those within Aetna’s MAPD service area.
Alachua, Citrus, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hernando, Hillsborough, Levy, Manatee, Marion, Pasco, Pinellas, Sarasota and Sumter

While this information is specific to Aetna, we expect other carriers to follow with notifications.
CMS is expected to release new rebate rule soon

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is expected to release a final rule soon on drug rebates after a flip-flopping 19-month run. The final rule, expected to be based on a proposal CMS released in February 2019, would end the current drug rebate program, in which pharmacy benefit managers pass on manufacturer rebates to health plans, which then use the funds to discount premium prices for all members. CMS Takes Steps to Ensure Medicare Beneficiaries Have Wide Access to COVID-19 Antibody Treatment

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services announced that starting today, Medicare beneficiaries can receive coverage of monoclonal antibodies to treat coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) with no cost-sharing during the public health emergency (PHE). CMS’ coverage of monoclonal antibody infusions applies to bamlanivimab, which received an emergency use authorization (EUA) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration yesterday. Learn More
Trump officials preparing to move forward with major step to lower Medicare drug prices

The move, fiercely opposed by the pharmaceutical industry, would implement President Trump’s “most favored nation” proposal and lower certain Medicare drug prices to match prices in other wealthy countries.

While the details of the regulation remain to be seen, the executive order proposed lowering Medicare drug prices to more closely match the lower prices in other wealthy countries that make up the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. It is also unclear whether the rules will apply to drugs in just Medicare Part B or Medicare Part B and Part D. Read more

Most Medicare Beneficiaries Do Not Use Medicare’s Official Information Sources

  • More than one-third (38%) of people with Medicare said they (or someone for them) had ever visited the official Medicare website for information, but a larger share (44%) said they had never visited the website, and the remainder reported they did not have access to the internet or had no one to access it for them (18%)
  • More than a quarter (28%) of all Medicare beneficiaries reported they had ever called the 1-800-MEDICARE helpline for information, but a much larger share (53%) reported they had never called, and another 19% said they were not aware the 1-800-MEDICARE helpline existed.

We have identified an issue impacting enrollment applications you submitted through the Ascend enrollment platform during the first week of AEP:
  • Primary care provider selections (PCPs) entered into Ascend were not transmitted.
  • Impacted members were auto-assigned PCPs and received letters indicating their PCP was being auto-assigned to a different provider than selected.

The issue was resolved on 10/19/2020.
  • A corrected enrollment file was transmitted with updated PCPs on 11/3/2020.
  • Corrections have been made to the impacted members' profiles, and new ID cards have been mailed.

Please advise your members that their PCPs have been corrected in the system and they should have received a new ID card with the correct PCP.
