Greetings from the State House!

Just hours ago, I was sworn in as the new state senator for the Hampshire, Franklin, Worcester district.

(That's me in the middle of the picture on the right.)

It's both a tremendous honor and tremendously humbling to begin my first term as state senator—especially at this high stakes moment for the Commonwealth and our nation. And today, amid the ceremony and festivities, I had the urge to dig in even more fiercely on a long list of priorities for our district!

Shortly after I was sworn in, I was delighted to cast my first vote to elect Karen Spilka as Senate President with confidence that she will lead the Senate with grit, grace, and unmistakable boldness. You may remember Senate President Spilka visited our district in mid-December on a tour focused on addressing chronic inequality and creating lasting opportunity for all. Don't miss her terrific op-ed in The Boston Globe. (And you can see a picture of the Senate President below.)

The Globe also profiled a handful of incoming legislators 'to watch,' which included me . You can read the article here.

There's seemingly an infinite amount to share about today and the path forward.

For now, I want you to know that I've launched a monthly column in The Daily Hampshire Gazette to mark this auspicious day titled Dear Jo . You can read the kick off piece here.

In Dear Jo , my team and I will publicly respond to your bold ideas, questions, and concerns every month. Please send your thoughts to [email protected].

And now, please let me briefly introduce you to my INCREDIBLE Senate team! (And I promise to write more about them over the coming weeks, and certainly via social media.)

They've already hit the ground working for the people of our district with unmatched passion and skill.

Jared Freedman, Chief of Staff
Brian Rosman, Legislative Director
Rani Jacobson, Legislative Aide
Elena Cohen, District Director
Sam Hopper, District Aide

(You can see us together in a picture below.)

In the weeks ahead, we'll launch a new Senate website complete with their bios. For now, you can use the following information to be in touch with me and our team:

  • For event invitations, meeting requests, and all scheduling, please email your request to [email protected].

  • To speak to Jared, Brian, or Rani in my State House office, please phone 617.722.1532.

I look forward to working together to make our district and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts places where everyone can thrive.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity to serve in the Massachusetts Legislature on our behalf.

Sending warmest wishes,
Senator Jo Comerford
