Live Music by TRILLIUM
Trillium is a folk group based out of Brevard that plays a mix of old-time, bluegrass, gospel, and traditional music. Originally formed as a trio by Elizabeth Bahnson and Sally and Mark Wingate, they are joined at the Farmers' Market by guitarist Gill Robins.
Sally grew up in Wilmington, Delaware, where she studied banjo with bluegrass legend Ted Lundy. Mark grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, learning to play music with some neighborhood friends, eventually forming the bluegrass band Chicken Hot Rod and playing colleges all over the eastern states. Mark and Sally became friends in 1970 after meeting around a campfire at a bluegrass festival. Since relocating to Brevard, NC, in 2015, Sally and Mark participate in the local old-time jams and play for the occasional square dance. They also play with Elizabeth Bahnson in the group Trillium, and Mark plays with the Blue Ridge Bakery Boys.
Elizabeth Bahnson grew up in Fairview, NC and started playing fiddle at the age of five. Trained in the Suzuki Method, she also learned fiddle tunes from Johnny Rhymer of the Bear Creek Ramblers. She is one of the founding members of the Steep Canyon Rangers, and now resides in Brevard with her husband and three sons. She helped start the JAM program at the Boys and Girl Club and enjoys playing music with friends and family.
Gill Robins grew up in Charleston, SC and in his teens he became captivated with the flatpicking of Doc Watson and began to focus on guitar. He has played in numerous country and bluegrass bands since his college days at Clemson and continues to enjoy playing after his retirement from architecture. He and his wife Nancy moved to Brevard in 2012 and enjoy the small town life and beautiful setting of western NC.
