CARVER VOICES - JULY

PROVIDING SUMMER JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Carver Center was awarded a contract to provide Summer Youth Employment Services (SYEP) for our community! The contract is providing funding for 25 youth ages 14-20 with job readiness skills training and summer employment opportunities. Half will work in our program, and the remainder will work with our community partners. Pictured are students attending their first SYEP READI and financial literacy workshop. READI is an acronym that represents: Respect, Enthusiasm, Articulate, Dependable, and Initiative.

CARVER MARKET NUMBERS

Our self-choice Carver Market had 13,589 family visits from July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2023.

Individuals shop for a variety of fresh fruit, vegetables, and proteins.

This past month, we started a special senior citizen shopping hour from 12:00 - 1:00 each Market day to ensure that our seniors can access the Market.

HELLO CAMPERS!

Our doors opened to 132 enthusiastic children who have jumped into our summer camp program.

This year's program includes many exciting and fun-themed days including a camper talent show, performances, weekly swim lessons, arts & crafts, sports, and field trips to local venues.

DINNER @ NOON

We wrapped up our Saturday Dinner @ Noon hot meal community program. We were delighted to welcome County Executive, George Latimer, who has supported Carver programming for many years.

Dinner @ Noon will be back in September. Check our website for future dates.

RODNEY BAKER - SPECIAL FRIEND TO CARVER

All of us at Carver were deeply saddened to hear the news that our friend, Rodney Baker, had passed away suddenly on May 4, 2023. Rodney’s father, Arnold C. Baker, was Executive Director of Carver Center from 1953 – 1964 and was very instrumental in ensuring that Carver Center’s doors were always opened to all residents of Port Chester, regardless of race, gender, or age. Rodney recently spent a day with us sharing many of his childhood memories at Carver.
