Dear Families,
Grandparents’ Mass – Tomorrow
Our annual Grandparents' Mass is tomorrow, May 27, at 9:00AM. If Pre-K-8 students have grandparents who can visit them at school that day (or if not, other relatives/special friends may substitute), they should meet their grandkids outside their classrooms at 8:45 so they may walk to church with them and sit with them at Mass. There will be special recognition of the grandparents during the liturgy.
Immediately following Mass, a reception follows over at the main building until 10:30, at which time the students need to get back to work and will have to say goodbye to their special visitors.
Please note that parking is congested for this event, so please arrive early and realize you may need to park on the soccer field, basketball court, or find neighborhood parking.
Parents’ Club Survey – Please Fill Out
Each year one way the Parent's Club uses its fundraiser revenue is to secure a parent-education specialist(s) to present to our school community over several evenings. We would like to hear your preference for which topic and/or speaker you are most interested in for St. Louise’s 2022-2023 school year.
Please click on this LINK to make your selection(s)!
It shouldn’t take more than 2 minutes.
Many thanks!

Pre-K Construction Update
|
|
|
|
It's been a busy few weeks over in the St. Louise Room as it is being transformed into our TWO new Pre-K Classrooms! HUGE thanks go out to Jonathan (JT) Taasan, our Parish Administrator, for organizing all of the construction so quickly! We are excited to share some pictures of the progress so far and will continue to give updates as the project moves along.
As you know, we are able to update our current Pre-K and add this new classroom because of the generosity of our families - giving over $135,000 on Auction Night. Additionally, we have just been notified that we were awarded $32,500 for the project from the Fulcrum Foundation! You can learn more about all of the support Fulcrum Foundation provides to Catholic Schools and their students here.
Thanks to our Admin and Pre-K Staff who put in extra time this spring learning all about grant writing, and pulling the necessary pieces together to get the grant application submitted in a very short time. St. Louise is so blessed to be part of a community so committed to Catholic Education!
Mrs. Blank also has a personal thank you to share:
Dear St. Louise Community,
I would like to personally thank you for your generous donations towards the Pre-K space at the auction. I am blown away with your kindness and commitment, especially for our youngest learners.
Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. When he placed his hands on them, he went on from there. (Matthew 19: 13-14)
Blessings,
Wendy Blank

With your help, we had a very successful Walk-a-thon last Friday. Our fundraising surpassed our goals by almost $10,000, raising $47,895!! And our amazing fundraisers walked 8031 laps! Many thanks to our parent volunteers who helped sort and distribute t-shirts, setup and take down the course, and cheer on our students as they rounded the course. Additional thanks to Tortoise and Hare for the tracking system, and DJ Sean Denard for the music to keep us moving.
Big congratulations to our winners:
- Most laps in school: James Sullivan (7B), 51 Laps
-
Grade with most laps per student: 8th Grade, 27.14 laps per student
- Most Donations in School: Olivia Blake Osorio (1A), $2134 raised
-
Grade with most donations per student: 2nd Grade, $148.09 per student
- Honorable mention goes to 7B's teacher, Mr. Walker, who led by example and racked up 58 laps on the course that day!!
A couple housekeeping items:
- Prizes will be handed out to the winners and the Golden Charger Club winners in the coming weeks.
- Those that have not met their fundraising goal of $95 for one student, or $190 for families with 2 or more students, can bring a check made payable to St. Louise School to the office. Emails will be sent later this week.
- The Walk-a-Thon is looking to add a parent (or two) to help run the event. Please contact the walk-a-thon chair or the Parents' Club for more information.
- We had some amazing photographers help us capture this event. We are working on a way to make these photos available for the families.
Thank you again to our students, volunteers, teachers, staff, and donors, for another successful Walk-a-Thon.

Social Emotional Learning Update
Talking to your kids about difficult subjects
|
|
|
|
It’s a sad fact that there are scary stories in the news that can deeply impact our kids when they hear them, including news of terrorist attacks. After all, when such acts of violence don’t make sense to us, how do we explain something that’s impossible to explain?
When it comes to talking with our children about difficult subjects like terrorism, simple and short is usually the best policy. Here are some examples of age-appropriate things you might say to your them:
- Preschoolers and Pre-K – “A bad person chose to hurt other people. Now, there are lots of people helping the ones who got hurt and there are police officers working hard to keep us safe.”
- School-Age Kids – “A bad person hurt some people and some of them died. There aren’t that many bad people in the world but every once in a while, a bad person does something terrible. Fortunately, there are a lot of police officers, doctors, and other people who are helping to take care of people who got hurt and they’re working hard to keep us safe.”
- Teenagers – “There was another terrorist attack. What have you heard about it?” Let your teen do a lot of the talking. Make sure you do so in a way that doesn’t cause your teen to think certain groups of people are all bad.
The following additional resources provide a broad guideline to help you in these conversations. They are meant as a starting point:
In closing, we are reminded of who God is through Psalm 91 “He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, ‘My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.’ For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler”. May God richly bless you.
Thank you for reading our social and emotional update edition! If you have suggestions for future topics or resources to share, please email them to me at [email protected]

Summer Camp & Activity Opportunities
|
|
|
|
As you plan for all the fun and exciting adventures your children will be having over the summer in just a couple months, please keep in mind that summer is an excellent opportunity to keep inquisitive minds active and engaged! Research shows that summer learning loss equals at least one month of instruction. Knowing this causes parents and teachers to think about how best to keep academic skills sharp over the summer while also using the time to improve upon or master some lagging academic skills.
Please click here to find our latest update to our Summer Programs and Camps document. This is a list of opportunities for enriching summer learning and fun for grades Pre-K through 12. Please take a moment to explore the possibilities, because many camps and programs fill up quickly.

We just hit publish on the 2021-2022 yearbook this weekend as we near the end of the school year. You may not know it, but building the yearbook starts in the summer—a full year effort. There are so many people to thank in helping capture all our wonderful memories this year. It has been fun to collect all the memories this year.
Key Team Members
Penny Williams: Instrumental in coordinating all our marketing/reminders, organizing key clubs to take photos, and ensuring every name is the book is correct. More importantly, editing any mistakes I (Janey) had. 😊
Juan Gonzalez: Taking such amazing photos of various CYO teams, concerts, field trips, band, holidays, and clubs, plus some really fun 8th grade Hall of Fame photos.
Eugene Titov: Lots of really wonderful photos of kids in and around school, Halloween, Ski School and of course the Walk a Thon. The hardest part was taking photos of the clubs with support from Penny. That is always a challenging task to organize that many students.
Rissa Corpuz: Great photos of the Walk a Thon and one concert.
Amy Wilken: Wonderful photos of the musical, a concert, band, and some masses.
With so many more events to cover and dealing with COVID issues off and on this year, the broader community has also contributed to the yearbook with their own shots.
Miscellaneous Contributing Families: Tello, Costa, D’Ambrosio, Pangallo, Jensen, Doran, Cheng, Rasmussen, Charles, Karli/Widodo, Magnotti, Kirby, Franco, Catorcini, Coles, Kehdy, Bixhorn, Kagetsu, Victor, Atenzana, Flaat, Nightingale.
As always, thank you to Mrs. Walker for organizing the kids in the annual yearbook cover contest.
Thank you to Mrs. Bowers, Mrs. LB, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Herridge, and the cast of teachers who helped Penny and Janey with all the names for clubs and helping coordinate club and individual portraits. That is always a challenging part of the year to get these final photos.
Thank you Mindy and Tracy for printing and sending our marketing materials and constantly sending rosters and providing updates on all the changes in enrollment so we ensure the accuracy of the book.
As a community, we very much grew a lot this year. Thank you all for helping capture every smile, every mask, every, run, kick, and jump, every hug, every note, every prayer, every name, and the whole St. Louise spirit in one book.
-Janey
Whoopsie…I forgot to order a yearbook! Can I still get one?
For those who have forgotten to order their yearbooks this year, please send a message to [email protected] to ask for a specific number of yearbooks. I will add your name to a list and allocate them first come first served, as we only purchased 25 extra books. We will send you a link to pay $28.00 through OSVOnline Giving as you would normally pay for our other school fees. If we run out of spares to allocate, you can still order through the same method, but you will have to pay for shipping and handling fees. Please email us quickly!

Dear Friends at St. Louise,
This weekend we celebrate another piece of the beautiful puzzle we call the Paschal Mystery. As I mentioned in a previous column, the word paschal means to “jump over.” Jesus “jumped over,” from heaven to earth, by his birth into our human existence; he “jumped over” from his death on the cross to the resurrection; and today we celebrate that he “jumped over” or ascended to the right hand of the Father.
What does it mean that he “ascended to the right hand of the Father”? As Abbott Jeremy Driscoll points out, it doesn’t literally mean that he went up to heaven, sat down at the Father’s left and the Father said, “No, you need to sit at my right”! Rather, this is symbolic language, to say that Jesus shares fully in the glory and majesty of the Father and the Holy Spirit. One God, three persons, unique in each person, and yet each wholly God and in full union.
Does this mean that somehow Jesus did not “sit at the right hand of the Father” until his Ascension into heaven? Now we really get into the stuff that is beyond our full understanding! As God, Jesus has always shared in the fullness of Divinity. Nothing ever was added to or taken away from him. He is co‑eternal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Yet, he did take on our humanity, fully, through his conception and birth. As a human being Jesus lived in time and space and entered into our human reality in every way, except for sin. In that sense, he took our humanity, through his divinity, to the right hand of the Father. We who live here in time and space are already participants in all that is beyond time and space.
That all sounds very lofty, but let me share with you a personal experience I had in prayer. Many of you know that my Uncle Dan lost his wife and four of his five children in a car accident in 1968, when I was 10 years old. That was my first experience with death. Ten years ago, during the third week of my 30‑day retreat, I was praying before the Blessed Sacrament and I thought of the experience of this family tragedy, the memories, and I re-lived its impact on our family and on my uncle in particular. I found myself praying for my uncle. I suddenly thought, “Why am I praying for Uncle Dan over something that happened 44 years ago?” And this is what I heard: “Your prayers now, helped him then.” I knew that Jesus was beyond time and space, but I had never thought that I could participate in eternity here and now in such a personal and powerful way. Yet through our union with Jesus, we can and do participate in eternity with our lives here and now. That is just a mere glimpse into the reality we celebrate with the Ascension today!
With my prayers for each one of you,
Fr. Gary Zender
