Dear Families,
Walk-A-Thon – A Huge Success!
We were so Blessed to have wonderful weather last Friday for our annual Walk-A-Thon Event. I would like to thank Jim Britt and Cari O’Loughlin-Britt as well as the numerous volunteers that helped out to make our event successful.
The Walk-a-Thon had a goal of raising $38,000, which the Parents' Club uses to pay for student enrichment assemblies and curriculum additions, to provide Christmas gifts to the teachers, as well as to sponsor parent education classes and family social events Thanks to school families' hard work and supporters' generosity, we actually raised $47,895! Wow! Way to go, Chargers!
Login those volunteer hours
Don’t forget to login your 40 hours of volunteering. We still have many families that have not recorded their hours. Please make sure you log in at least 40 volunteer hours HERE by June. If you need help logging in, please email Mr. Kirby - dank@stlouiseschool.org.
For those families who will not be able to log in at least 40 hours of volunteering, the fee for unworked hours this year is $21.00. So, for example, if one family recorded 0 volunteer hours, the school expects them to pay $400 by June. Whereas, if someone logged in 10 hours, the expectation is to pay $200.
Please go HERE if you will need to pay a fee in lieu of fulfilling your volunteer hour commitment. We would appreciate the fee being paid the first week of June at the latest.
Some available volunteer positions for the final weeks of the school year include:
-
Saturday Spruce Up –Please join us this Saturday, May 21 from 8 to 11 AM to help with spring yard work on campus. We have garden areas that vary in size that are great for a solo volunteer, for two people or for an entire family – the more the merrier. Please bring your own work gloves and hand-held weeding tool. This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone that needs volunteer hours for school or work. Please sign-up at tiny.one/spruceup.
-
Our Auction Team is looking for some fun people to breathe some new life into our procurement planning. Please reach out to Laura Bonner to jump on board!
-
New Family Mentor - We would love current school families to greet and mentor newly enrolled 2022-23 families on the ins & outs of being a St. Louise parent; please let Mindy Morgan and Tracy Brown know if you can be a mentor - a volunteer job that you can mostly do on your own time from home and will involve a summer playdate with the new student and family.
-
Field Day - this annual event will take place on June 14, and Mr. Evans will need lots of help all day
Annual Fund, Auction, and Charger Cards
Finally, besides your yearly commitment to give volunteer hours, school families also commit to supporting the Annual Fund, the Auction, and Charger Cards.
-
If you pledged to the Annual Fund, but haven't gotten around to sending in your check or credit card donation, please give HERE now. Please contact Amanda Adkins if you have questions.
- All families completed their Nov-20 and/or Apr-9 Auction procurements already, but for returning families, we will soon give you information for procuring/donating your Februrary-2023 Auction donation (for the 22-23 school year) in the fall.
-
Charger Cards is considered fulfilled if you have either chosen to "opt out" and pay the $250 fee or if you bring in a minimum of $125 in rebates/profit from your yearlong Charger Card purchases. To pay the fee, please submit a check or cash (no credit cards accepted for this fee) to "St. Louise Charger Cards." If you didn't opt out and will be bringing in at least $125 in rebates/profit, please make sure you take advantage of these final weeks to purchase as many Charger Cards as needed. Please contact Tiffany and Erica in the Charger Cards office if you need help in determining how far you are away from fulfilling your commitment.
Parents’ Club Survey
Each year one way the Parent's Club uses its fundraiser revenue is to secure a parent-education specialist(s) to present to our school community over several evenings. We would like to hear your preference for which topic and/or speaker you are most interested in for St. Louise’s 2022-2023 school year.
Please click on this LINK to make your selection(s)!
It shouldn’t take more than 2 minutes.
Many thanks!

Looking for a Hospitality Co-Chair
Hospitality Co-Chair Needed! Help support the school and create a welcoming environment on the Hospitality team. We coordinate and provide food and beverages for events such as Open Houses, Curriculum Nights, and staff lunches during Catholic Schools’ Week. It’s simple, an easy way to earn volunteer hours, and a great way to meet other parents and staff. A lot of the coordination is simply managing Sign-Up Geniuses! Please reach out to Meghan Green for more information. meghan.h.green@gmail.com
Have a wonderful weekend!

With your help, we had a very successful Walk-a-thon last Friday. Our fundraising surpassed our goals by almost $10,000, raising $47,895!! And our amazing fundraisers walked 8031 laps! Many thanks to our parent volunteers who helped sort and distribute t-shirts, setup and take down the course, and cheer on our students as they rounded the course. Additional thanks to Tortoise and Hare for the tracking system, and DJ Sean Denard for the music to keep us moving.
Big congratulations to our winners:
- Most laps in school: James Sullivan (7B), 51 Laps
-
Grade with most laps per student: 8th Grade, 27.14 laps per student
- Most Donations in School: Olivia Blake Osorio (1A), $2134 raised
-
Grade with most donations per student: 2nd Grade, $148.09 per student
- Honorable mention goes to 7B's teacher, Mr. Walker, who led by example and racked up 58 laps on the course that day!!
A couple housekeeping items:
- Prizes will be handed out to the winners and the Golden Charger Club winners in the coming weeks.
- Those that have not met their fundraising goal of $95 for one student, or $190 for families with 2 or more students, can bring a check made payable to St. Louise School to the office. Emails will be sent later this week.
- The Walk-a-Thon is looking to add a parent (or two) to help run the event. Please contact the walk-a-thon chair or the Parents' Club for more information.
- We had some amazing photographers help us capture this event. We are working on a way to make these photos available for the families.
Thank you again to our students, volunteers, teachers, staff, and donors, for another successful Walk-a-Thon.

Social Emotional Learning Update for May
|
|
|
|
Greetings from your new Social and Emotional Learning Specialist!
Over the last few weeks, I have spent a lot of time exploring bullying prevention tools with all the students (in large and small groups). Here’s what we’ve covered so far: Direct and indirect bullying; causes of bullying; classroom bullying and its effects; social isolation as a form of bullying; passive and active victims of bullying and more.
As the article explains, the main differences are:
- Rude = Inadvertently saying or doing something that hurts someone else. Incidents of rudeness are usually spontaneous and unplanned, based on thoughtlessness or poor manners, but not meant to actually hurt someone.
- Mean = Purposefully saying or doing something to hurt someone once (or maybe twice).
- Bullying = Intentionally aggressive behavior, repeated over time, that involves an imbalance of power.
I believe being able to identify different types of bullying will help the student understand if they are the target or culprit of bullying activities.
A big thank you to the generous donations from the Parents’ Club, who made possible for us bring and explore in depth a virtual play from the Taproot theater https://taproottheatre.org/. It was a great compliment to our bullying curriculum.
Thank you for reading our first social and emotional update edition! If you have suggestions for future topics or resources to share, please email them to me at mariaz@stlouiseschool.org

Summer Camp & Activity Opportunities
|
|
|
|
As you plan for all the fun and exciting adventures your children will be having over the summer in just a couple months, please keep in mind that summer is an excellent opportunity to keep inquisitive minds active and engaged! Research shows that summer learning loss equals at least one month of instruction. Knowing this causes parents and teachers to think about how best to keep academic skills sharp over the summer while also using the time to improve upon or master some lagging academic skills.
Please click here to find our latest update to our Summer Programs and Camps document. This is a list of opportunities for enriching summer learning and fun for grades Pre-K through 12. Please take a moment to explore the possibilities, because many camps and programs fill up quickly.

From the Auction Office...
|
|
|
|
Just a reminder that the Auction Office still has wine and some other items for sale through the end of this week.
There is still time to bid on the chance for your child to be Teacher for the Day. On May 31st, 2022, the winning bidder’s child will gather with all the student teachers (one per class) before school in the teacher’s lounge for doughnuts, hot chocolate, and lesson planning.
During the school day, your child will have a special teaching task, All “teachers” will enjoy pizza lunch in the teacher’s lounge, free dress (regular rules apply), official name tags on a lanyard to wear for the day, and a “name plate” outside the classroom.
At the end of this special day, your child will go home with a keepsake to remember their time as a teacher!

We just hit publish on the 2021-2022 yearbook this weekend as we near the end of the school year. You may not know it, but building the yearbook starts in the summer—a full year effort. There are so many people to thank in helping capture all our wonderful memories this year. It has been fun to collect all the memories this year.
Key Team Members
Penny Williams: Instrumental in coordinating all our marketing/reminders, organizing key clubs to take photos, and ensuring every name is the book is correct. More importantly, editing any mistakes I (Janey) had. 😊
Juan Gonzalez: Taking such amazing photos of various CYO teams, concerts, field trips, band, holidays, and clubs, plus some really fun 8th grade Hall of Fame photos.
Eugene Titov: Lots of really wonderful photos of kids in and around school, Halloween, Ski School and of course the Walk a Thon. The hardest part was taking photos of the clubs with support from Penny. That is always a challenging task to organize that many students.
Rissa Corpuz: Great photos of the Walk a Thon and one concert.
Amy Wilken: Wonderful photos of the musical, a concert, band, and some masses.
With so many more events to cover and dealing with COVID issues off and on this year, the broader community has also contributed to the yearbook with their own shots.
Miscellaneous Contributing Families: Tello, Costa, D’Ambrosio, Pangallo, Jensen, Doran, Cheng, Rasmussen, Charles, Karli/Widodo, Magnotti, Kirby, Franco, Catorcini, Coles, Kehdy, Bixhorn, Kagetsu, Victor, Atenzana, Flaat, Nightingale.
As always, thank you to Mrs. Walker for organizing the kids in the annual yearbook cover contest.
Thank you to Mrs. Bowers, Mrs. LB, Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Herridge, and the cast of teachers who helped Penny and Janey with all the names for clubs and helping coordinate club and individual portraits. That is always a challenging part of the year to get these final photos.
Thank you Mindy and Tracy for printing and sending our marketing materials and constantly sending rosters and providing updates on all the changes in enrollment so we ensure the accuracy of the book.
As a community, we very much grew a lot this year. Thank you all for helping capture every smile, every mask, every, run, kick, and jump, every hug, every note, every prayer, every name, and the whole St. Louise spirit in one book.
-Janey
Whoopsie…I forgot to order a yearbook! Can I still get one?
For those who have forgotten to order their yearbooks this year, please send a message to yearbook@stlouiseschool.org to ask for a specific number of yearbooks. I will add your name to a list and allocate them first come first served, as we only purchased 25 extra books. We will send you a link to pay $28.00 through OSVOnline Giving as you would normally pay for our other school fees. If we run out of spares to allocate, you can still order through the same method, but you will have to pay for shipping and handling fees. Please email us quickly!

Dear Friends at St. Louise,
I have good news to share! Beginning June 5, Pentecost Sunday, the chapel in the Parish Center (where the Parish Office is) will be available 24/7 for people to come and pray before the Blessed Sacrament. People have been asking for this for a long time and, praise God, it is finally happening. Thanks to an anonymous donor, the chapel will soon have a new tabernacle, with a window through which the Blessed Sacrament will be exposed for those who come to adore the Lord. The new tabernacle will also have small doors that will be closed on those occasions when the chapel hosts liturgical celebrations such as Mass, small weddings, funerals, and baptisms.
How will people have access to the chapel after office hours? Registered parishioners will be able to come to the Parish Office to register and sign an agreement to be issued an electronic fob that will allow entrance to the front door of the Parish Center, so that you may enter the chapel. The other parts of the office will be locked and alarmed for security. The agreement that people will sign will give the full details about how to help maintain security for everyone and what to do in case of an emergency. We kindly ask that you not share the fob with anyone outside of your household.
Why is Eucharistic Adoration important? The active celebration of the Eucharist – that is, Mass – is the source and summit of the Christian life. Abbot Jeremy Driscoll says that Eucharistic Adoration is a “freezeframe” of what we do at Mass. In adoration we simply are with the Lord, who is with us sacramentally in his body, soul and divinity. He looks at us as we look at him. Many people find that this can lead to deep peace and a sense of direction that we might otherwise miss. St. Teresa of Calcutta instructed her sisters to center their spirituality on daily Mass and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament; only with the spiritual strength conferred by these practices would they be able to face the awful reality of the suffering of the poorest of the poor. I know from my personal and pastoral experience that Eucharist adoration can truly lead us to a deeper encounter with the Lord.
Questions? Please don’t hesitate to speak to anyone on the staff, especially Michael Johnson at the Parish Office front desk, about getting a fob, and with Katie O’Neill, Fr. Ben or me about the spirituality of adoration.
Blessings to all of you!
Fr. Gary Zender
