MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR BLOUNT PARTNERSHIP OPEN HOUSE

DEADLINE OF DECEMBER 8 FOR PLACEMENT IN 2018 BASICALLY BLOUNT
The 2018 Basically Blount lifestyle magazine and membership directory is entering production once again. This annual, full-color lifestyle magazine and chamber membership directory is initially distributed to all Chamber members starting Feb. 2018, along with distribution four times throughout the year via area professional offices, newcomers, visitors, and new businesses all looking to relocate to Blount County.

In addition to intriguing stories and area photography that highlight the best of Blount County, Basically Blount also includes a finger-indexed, color-coded directory and buyer's guide of all Chamber members. Chamber members consistently tell us that they keep Basically Blount on hand throughout the year in order to find business products and services when they need them.

We are pleased to offer a variety of advertising opportunities at cost effective rates through our media kit. We have contracted with Marcon Marketing Consultants, a local Chamber member, to handle production and ad sales.

If you would like to learn more about the benefits of Basically Blount, the importance of supporting the Chamber, and how to get your business involved, contact: Rick Ford of Marcon Marketing at (865) 705-8580.

DECEMBER MEMBER-TO-MEMBER PROMOTIONS
Member-to-member promotions are here for December. Check out the new offers from First Light Home Healthcare. See these and other promotions at member-to-member promotions. New offers are being posted almost daily, so check out the Blount County Chamber of Commerce Member-to-Member promotions online. This Member-to-Member Promotional Program offers you and your company the opportunity to market your products and services to the membership.

Here's how it works:
1. Submit a PDF of a service, product or discount you'd like to offer to the Chamber membership to jmuir@blountpartnership.com. Be sure to include an expiration date.
2. An email with all the promotions will be sent out on the final Monday of every month to our member database.
3. All promotions will be posted on www.BlountChamber.com

REMEMBER TO SHOP LOCAL
Think local first + Buy local when you can = Being a local!

Independent shops often stock items which are made locally and aren't available elsewhere: buy a dress by a fledgling designer and there is little chance of turning up to the office Christmas party wearing the same as someone else.

Find what you're looking for in the Chamber Directory.

GOT AN EVENT OR NEWS? WE'D LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT
Is your organization hosting an event in the community? Submit it here on our community calendar. If it's a tourism event or any good news about your business, please send it to us. We'd love to share it with the community.

REMEMBER WHEN
Topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week in 1966 was "Winchester Cathedral" by The New Vaudeville Band, a British novelty group. The recording is one of the few charting songs to feature a bassoon. The song won the 1967 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary (R&R) Recording, despite not being a rock and roll song.

The Dialogue

This feature is a question-and-answer session with a new Blount County Chamber member. So here we go with our 96th installment visiting with Mike McPherson, owner/inspector, of McPherson Home Inspections, LLC, who helps home buyers make an informed decision on what may be the single largest purchase of their lives.

Describe what you do. McPherson Home Inspections, LLC specializes in residential home inspections. We offer infra-red thermographic imaging as a standard part of every home inspection along with a professional and thorough inspection process. In addition, we offer mold testing, radon testing, and water quality testing. If you are getting ready to sell you home you may be interested in our pre-sale consultation to help identify potential issues so you can be proactive in addressing items before they become issues to negotiate with a buyer.

How did you get started? With my wife and I both coming from families with construction backgrounds home inspections are a return to our roots. Our knowledge and practical application of that knowledge in identifying issues and reporting makes McPherson Home Inspections a great choice to work for you.

What is your background? My wife and I grew up in the building trades and at one time I owned a plumbing company in another state. That background knowledge, combined with a BBA and MBA from Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi, provides us a solid foundation to operate and grow a successful business.

Who is your mentor? My wife, Teresa. She is my hero.

Describe your customers. Anyone looking to buy or sell a home is the primary client. However, if anyone is concerned about the condition of their property or the potential health issues that may be concerned with a property, we are here to help. With the wide variety of professional testing services we are able to fill many roles.

What impacts the business environment you work in? Technology is amazing. We use state of the art professional equipment to make sure our clients are getting the absolute highest quality inspection and report we can provide.

Name three things you wish you knew when you started. I wish I had known more about marketing. We offer a very high quality service and we want everyone to know about it!

What do you enjoy most about your business? I like the fact that we have the freedom to help people without the restraints of "company rules". We can work with people and help thier dreams come to life in buying a solid home.
