Columbia-Willamette Women of Vision

September 2021

There's Much to Celebrate

Dear Partners and Friends,

We have a great reason to be thankful and to praise the Lord at the end of this fiscal year! As I write, we are not quite to the end of September which will give the "final, final" amount raised by our chapter. But, we can be confident that it is very close to $270,000!! That is $30,000 above our $240,000 goal for the year—which was a stretch from the year before! Thank you to everyone who helped us reach our goal.

On October 1, we begin a new fiscal year with a new goal. Our leadership team nearly unanimously voted to increase our goal to $300,000. That vote was an expression of the faith our leaders have in God to use us for his praise. We will be funding the same three projects that we know bring transformational change to vulnerable children and families: in Syrian Refugee Camps, in rural and urban Honduras, and with girls at risk of FGM and early marriage in Kenya. These projects are a joy for us to support and an exciting opportunity to invite our friends to join in ministry.

Beyond the positive challenge of a stretch goal, beyond the support of life-changing projects, beyond the fun and connection of working with like-minded women, your partnership brings another blessing. The work we support together demonstrates the image of God that He wants the world to know:

Let this be written for a future generation,

that a people not yet created may praise the Lord:

“The Lord looked down from his sanctuary on high,

from heaven he viewed the earth,

to hear the groans of the prisoners

and release those condemned to death.”

So the name of the Lord will be declared in Zion

           and his praise in Jerusalem

when the peoples and the kingdoms

           assemble to worship the Lord.

                                               Psalm 102:18-22

Thank you for all you did to make this year so successful. Now, get ready to partner with God’s work through us in the coming year!

We invite you to get started with us right away. Here are two great opportunities in October:

  • Attend the Fall Kick-off on October 2. Our speaker will be Ray Norman, author of Dangerous Love, who currently serves in the role of WASH Global Sector Lead for World Vision International. He’ll share stories of Life, Water & Transformation in World Vision projects.
  • And, if you want to learn about or would like a refresher on World Vision’s ministry, then sign up for a Zoom Women of Vision 101 class on October 23.

Looking forward with you to the adventure of the year ahead,

Ruth Nottingham

We are excited for you to hear from our special guest, Ray Norman, who worked many years in the Muslim world, serving as World Vision Mauritania 's National Director. During his time with us, he will weave themes of LIFE, WATER, and TRANSFORMATION using the stories of children and communities World Vision serves. He speaks from his unique perspective as a global expert on WASH and one who has served the Lord in transformational development for many decades.

Partner with us!

Each new fiscal year beginning October 1, Women of Vision invites every partner to renew her annual commitment to partner with this community of like-hearted women who are called to use their time, talent, and treasure to make a lasting difference in the lives of the most vulnerable. Would you prayerfully consider renewing your commitment today—or joining us for the first time?

We are God’s people.

This is God’s ministry.

This is our time.

As a community of believers, we pledge to come together to equip and empower families in Honduras, Kenya, and Syria … and we pray that we experience transformation of our own in the process.

We welcome all women to find the joy in serving with us, depending upon your unique gifts and schedule, to support World Vision's work to end extreme poverty. Just click this link to continue or start on the journey!

Please remember the children of Afghanistan

More than 18 million Afghan people (at least half the country) need humanitarian assistance following a severe drought, conflict, displacement, and impacts of COVID-19. After weeks of suspension, some World Vision operations resumed last week. World Vision has been at work in Afghanistan for the past twenty years.

Andrew Morley, World Vision International President and CEO, says aid agencies are together deeply concerned about the unfolding crisis and is calling for more to be done. “We urge leaders everywhere to stand alongside the children of Afghanistan in their hour of need. A hunger crisis threatens countless children’s futures. The scenes are heart-breaking, and we must act together to provide the resources on the ground, immediately. Children can only begin to achieve their dreams, to live life in all its fullness, with peace and stability in their country.”
