Domestic Violence Awareness Month is Coming

Here's how you can plan ahead

Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) is in October. Now is the time to finalize social media campaigns, event and fundraising plans, and community awareness efforts for DVAM.

The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) releases a toolkit annually for domestic violence organizations nationwide. The toolkit includes social media graphics with captions, press releases, and various templates to create an awareness campaign for DVAM. The toolkit also provides guides for fundraising and awareness month communications.

DVAM Dates to Remember

There are multiple awareness days throughout DVAM that you can use to leverage social media engagement, connect with potential donors, or spread community awareness.

  • Oct 1: DVAM Begins

  • Oct 8: Health Cares About Domestic Violence Day

Purple Thursday

Join Missouri domestic violence agencies across the state in lighting the state purple for Purple Thursday on October 16. Connect with your local city governments, police and fire departments, community partners, and businesses to encourage them to change their outdoor lighting to purple lighting.

MOCADSV created a template letter you can send to your community partners to encourage them to change their lighting for Purple Thursday. Click here to access the document.
