NOTES FROM THE PRESIDENT

As I continue to meet with our members and listen to their needs, recruiting and retaining qualified employees is a key concern that comes up regularly. Given the low unemployment rate in the Capital Region and continued job creation in the area, finding employees can be challenging. However, there are ways the Chamber can assist as you recruit new employees.

First we have relationships with both Hudson Valley Community College and SUNY Schenectady. Both of these institutions have programs and funding for middle skills employees. They have students ready to graduate who may be a good fit for your company.

We also have a public job board that is free for members to post to. Sometimes the right candidate is someone you already know, or is connected to someone in your circle. Our job board is one of the most popular pages viewed on our website. Click here to learn how to post on our job board.

Finally, we can connect you to the Capital Region Workforce Development Board. They also have screened job candidates. You may also qualify for reimbursement of training costs when you hire a new employee. Employers can be reimbursed up to fifty percent of the new employee's salary for the first ten weeks of employment during the training period. We would be happy to connect you to that benefit.

If you need help posting a job, need an introduction to our contacts at the community colleges, or want to learn more about the training program please reach out.

I am Irish and blessed with luck, but I know it takes more than luck to run a business. You need a team of people you can trust. We want the Bethlehem Chamber to be part of your trusted team!

Ribbon Cutting at Library Maker Space
Join the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce, local officials and Library staff as we cut the ribbon on the library's new video maker space. In this new space community members will be able to produce their own videos and podcasts. The space can be utilized for those needing to do video job interviews, those needing a video portfolio, individuals wanting to produce podcasts, or a variety of creative reasons. Capture your family's history, interview your children, showcase your area of expertise! Join us for a demonstration of the equipment at this ribbon cutting.
