A Great Day for VBCF's legislative priorities!
VBCF's priority legislation in the House of Delegates, HB1828, crossed a major milestone today and was unanimously voted out of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Resources! Next, the full House Appropriations will vote on the bill - and they usually take the recommendation of the Subcommittee. This puts us in great shape to move to the House floor early next week for a vote of the full House of Delegates! Very exciting!
The Senate companion, SB1436 was passed by for the day in the full Senate. We will keep you posted.
Background:
HB1828/SB1436 will eliminate the high out-of-pocket costs (co-pays, co-insurance or deductibles) that many patients face when getting follow-up diagnostic or supplemental breast imaging, including diagnostic mammography, ultrasound, and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). More information: FACT SHEET HB1828/SB1436
In MORE good news, our other priority, HB1725 was passed by the House of Delegates today! The next step on its journey is to move over to the Senate for consideration. This bill will safeguard Virginians from extreme forms of medical debt collection practices, such as foreclosing on homes and garnishing wages. It’s a vital step toward protecting patients from additional financial burdens while they navigate healthcare challenges.
Sending huge gratitude to all who took action this week to help move our priorities forward! Your voice makes a difference!
