November Nesting
"She stands
In tattered gold
Tossing bits of amber
And jade, jewels of a year grown old:
November"

-Zephyr Ware Tarver

As the temps grow colder and the leaves continue to fall, our farmers carry on. Covering their crops with blankets, harvesting vegetables made sweeter by the frost, and picking bushels of fruit that longs to be baked in pie or some other comforting dessert. November is a time for settling in, for nesting and celebrating food and family. Come visit us tomorrow and stock up on wholesome ingredients for hearty soups and stews, pies, and cobblers, and all your fresh and local favorites. Our farmers look forward to seeing you.

FROM THE FIELD
Cabbage Throw Farm
Cabbage Throw Farm is back this weekend after enduring the first big frost of the season. But luckily it did more good than harm - making some of their crops even sweeter! For the first time this fall, Cabbage, Broccoli, and Celery will be available (but in limited quantities so get there early). Dean and Emily are also running a SPECIAL: Buy 3 heads of lettuce for $7! Mix and match green and red oak leaf, green and red butterhead, or green and red crisp leaf lettuce.
Look for lots of baby greens, spring mix, escarole, kale, chard, herbs, Napa cabbage, Bok choy, radishes and FENNEL!

Featured Recipe:
Roasted Fennel with Lemon Pasta
Chop fennel bulb into slices, include some minced fennel fronds. Toss in olive oil and season with salt and pepper
Cut two lemons in half and place flesh side down on cookie sheet with fennel
Roast at 375 for about 20-30 minutes or until golden. While fennel is in the oven, boil pasta of choice. Toss fennel and pasta together with butter, olive oil, cracked pepper. Squeeze roasted lemon and top with capers.
Comeback Orchards
Customer Appreciation Specials!
Organic fruit supplies from a very challenging year are getting low, so this will unfortunately be the last week for Comeback Orchards. A hearty thanks go out to all of you who support our efforts in Organic farming. As farmer Pete always says "a farmers best year is always next year". Next year looks promising, the young trees put on some good growth, the older ones are loaded with fruit buds as typically follows a light year, the raspberry and blackberry patch is reaching maturity, and with over twenty varieties should give a full season of sweetness from summer to fall. Blueberries will be coming from our farm, they take longer to mature so quantities won't be great but we'll bring what we've got. And organic strawberries should be plentiful, they grew well with all the rain, and after last winter's vole devastation we've found some organic controls to keep them off the plants during dormant season.

We'll be bringing the last of our organic Asian and European pears, as well as the last of our apple selection this week. Also look for our organic tomato products made for us by our friends at Baumans in Strassamanville, PA, organic garden ketchup as well as organic mild, medium, and hot salsa. Rounding out the selection will be organic cider applesauce, a perfect accompaniment for your Thanksgiving turkey, and our organic fruit butters, apple, peach, pear, Asian pear, and the new addition of pumpkin butter. Look for customer appreciation specials on many of the fruit butters, a good time to stock up for winter for those of you who are brave enough to come out in our first taste of winter weather.

Scholl Orchards
Red and golden beets grace the table this week along with tons of winter squash, broccoli and cauliflower. And the list of apples is pretty impressive too ... Winesap, Evercrisp, Suncrisp, Crimson Crisp, Honeycrisp, Macoun, Ruby Mcintosh, Jonagold, Fuji, Pink Lady, Gala and more! Plus fresh unpasteurized apple cider and jarred items.

SPECIAL EVENT!
Don't miss the special Ludacrisp Apple Release and Cider Making Demo Sunday, 10am-3pm at Scholl Orchards!
