Hello there!

Recently, I did something I don’t do often enough—I truly unplugged. I stepped away from emails, deadlines, texts, and the constant buzz of everyday life and my brother-in-laws took our family to Italy for 10 days. I left it all behind and enjoyed this generous blessing. Somewhere between the peaceful stroll in the Forum and the rolling hills of Tuscany, I remembered what it means to be present.

There’s a certain magic that settles over you when you allow yourself to just be. I felt it as I stood in awe of the Duomo in Florence, as I soaked in the cold pool at the Tuscan villa where we stayed, and as we took silly pictures with the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

I felt it again while walking through the winding medieval streets of Lucca, lit up only by our candles and twinkling lights that marked our path during the Luminara della Santa Croce candlelight procession. This was the culmination of our trip and we each lit a candle and walked in remembrance of my husband Jon, and my nephew Samuel.

Every moment held something sacred—whether it was the splendid magnificence of the Sistine Chapel, the sweetness of the non-dairy gelato, or the roar of life around the Colosseum. There was no rush. No pressure. Just beauty, history, and the soft rhythm of a slower pace.

The sky was a blue that touched my soul. Meals were unrushed and spontaneous, laughter flowed freely amongst our family and friends, and the cliffs of Cinque Terre reminded me how small we are—and how we take ourselves way too seriously.

Stepping away was such a beautiful pause and I will be forever grateful for the memories. I am convinced that letting go of responsibilities and taking a break from life isn’t selfish—it’s necessary. If you’re waiting for the “right time” to take that break, let this be that reminder that there never is a perfect time. We have to carve out our schedules and make it happen.

Whether it’s a trip on the other side of the world or a long weekend away, give yourself the gift of being present. You deserve to feel that wonder too. To see more of my favorite Italy pictures, please visit my Instagram page here for four posts.
