Item Newsletter, Issue #2, September 7, 2021
Congrats to the HW community on launching the 2021-2022 school year!

Hopefully everyone is becoming familiar with classroom routines, making new friends, and enjoying a fresh start to a new school year. Back-to-school time is always a whirlwind and the amount of information provided can be overwhelming. Please reach out with questions, concerns, and feedback. We’re happy to help and want to hear from you. Let’s all work together to create a positive elementary school experience for our children!

We look forward to coming together as a community at our upcoming Go to School Night next Tuesday, September 14. This is a wonderful opportunity for parents to gain insight on the year ahead. See you there!

Smile! Picture Day is Tuesday, September 21
We can’t wait to see your children’s smiling faces this September!
Just like last year, all photos will be taken outside by a Stuart Rodgers photographer, maintaining appropriate physical distancing. If the weather does not cooperate, we will reschedule for another date.
A new change for this year! In years past, parents have received order forms ahead of Picture Day to be returned to the school. This year, there will be no order forms. Every child will have their photo taken. After Picture Day, Stuart Rodgers will email you a photo gallery from which you can pick your child’s photo and place an order.
A Picture Retake Day is scheduled for October 26 for any children who miss Picture Day or who are unhappy with their original photo.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Becky Sanderson at

Do you still have your Back to School Yard Sign?

We hope you enjoyed seeing it in your front yard! All the signs should have been picked up by now but if we missed yours, please return it to school. Thanks!

School Directory Information

Wondering about how you can get contact info for your child's classroom families or D36 families? There is one D36 online directory for all District 36 schools.

Your access will be available in mid to late September -- watch for updates and instructions! Until the new directory is updated, last year's information will be in Directory Spot.

Due to parent privacy rules, the PTO (including room parents) cannot share class lists or parent information prior to the directory being made available.

Rah, Rah, Rah For Our Volunteers!

Our school year is off to a running start thanks to the efforts of the many volunteers involved with the PTO's back-to-school initiatives. While space constraints keep us from naming everyone, please know all the hard work is much appreciated!

We are especially grateful to…

Peter Eck and the Back-to-School Committee for delivering yard signs to every HW family's home and hosting the parent coffee.

Caroline Katz, Analisa Johnson and HW Buddy Families for welcoming new families and planning a playground popsicle play date.

Margaret Reynolds and the School Supplies Committee for handling the ordering and distribution of the student supply kits.

Molly Dolkart and the Beautification Committee for the wonderful planters around the school.

Kerry Rogers and the Faculty Fun Lunch Committee for coordinating the faculty welcome lunch.

Room Parent Teams for volunteering to support classroom teachers and parents.
