TCAT Summer Route Changes
Check before you ride
TCAT's summer service schedule is effective now until August, 24th. Before you head out to catch the bus, check the schedule for timing or route changes.
Check out Route 22 (weekends only) for summer service to Cass Park and Taughannock Falls State Park.

Bike Month Musings
Upon getting her new electric bike, an Ithaca Carshare member and volunteer Judith Meyers-Thomas told us "It is an awesome sense of freedom. I ride everywhere. In fact, I just returned from doing all my grocery shopping at Neighborhood Pride and I live near Cayuga Heights school! Look ma, no car!!!"

The Streets Were Alive!
Highlights from Streets Alive 2013
Thanks to all of our wonderful volunteers who helped scoop ice cream for Ithaca Carshare! We served about 500 hungry ice cream eaters, and are already looking forward to the next Streets Alive!

Bike to Work Day 2013

Ithaca's second annual Bike to Work/School Day on May 16th was a success, with over 400 attendees commuting to work or school via bicycle.
Event organizer, Ray Weaver, said "We had an awesome turnout this year. Several stations reported seeing double the attendance they had last year. It was a perfect day to bike to work. We even had an individual who canoes to work every day!" Thanks to all who participated!

Upcoming Summer Locations
Temporary trial location at Court/Linn
As summer rolls in and Carshare use on East Hill decreases, we'll once again move two cars down the hill for the summer.
Starting June 6th, you can find Carl at our space on Cayuga St. at the Commons, adjacent to Handwork.
New this year is a trial location on E. Court St. at Linn St. You'll find Leopold on the south side of Court St., facing Cascadilla Creek, just south of the TCAT bus stop.
If this new spot is the closest Ithaca Carshare location to your home or work, you get a free application and trial It's My Car membership for June and July (value $30/mo), with membership fees starting in August. Regular hourly, and mileage rates apply. Use promotion code "Summer2013" on your application.

Driving Boom is Over
New Report Shows Americans are Driving Less
According to a study published this month by U.S. PIRG, Americans are driving fewer miles than in recent years, spurred in part by changing habits of Millennials.
As noted in their press release, "the slowdown in driving is likely to continue. Baby Boomers are moving out of the phase in their life when they do the most commuting, while driving-averse Millennials move into that phase. These demographic changes and other factors will likely keep driving down for decades.
'The Driving Boom is over,' said Phineas Baxandall, Senior Analyst at the U.S. PIRG Education Fund and co-author of the report. "The constant increases we saw in driving up until 2005 show no sign of returning.'
