We are once again saddened to announce the passing of another former and beloved teacher, Mr. George Zemaitis. George began his illustrious career at SFDS as a Drafting Teacher. He also took on the roles of Art Department Chairperson, Head of Building Services, Moderator of WYSE, to name a few. George was one of those teachers who would be at school late into the afternoon and on weekends. He was devoted to his students and his school. His devotion to SFDS included having both his children, Craig and Joelle, attend SFDS.
Students flourished under his tutelage. George had a vast knowledge of systems, carpentry and mechanics. He was a great mentor to many. He had a love of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture. Every year he took students on field trips to tour the many examples of Wright's architecture across our city.
As shared in his eulogy: "role models seem hard to come by these days. Yet, George's pragmatic creativity, moral clarity and love expressed through action are behaviors worth modeling."
Rest in Peace.
