February News from

St. Francis de Sales High School

Dear St. Francis de Sales Community,

February is here! The month of love and we love our community! And it certainly is nice to see the sun again -- we love that!

There is lots to love this month. Black History Month is underway. Students are weaving this focus into their classes.

Colleges Acceptances are rolling in, almost 50% of our seniors have been accepted to college with scholarship amounts over $1,200,000.

We are also sending love and thanks to Commissioner Stanley Moore for thinking of our students at St. Francis de Sales High School! He outfitted three exceptional seniors with new laptops to begin their college career! Commissioner Moore, we could not be more grateful for all that you do for our school!

As always, remember to get your SFDS gear year round! Visit our Pioneer family spirit wear sideline store to shop online and have your gear delivered directly to you.

Please let me know if you have information you want to share in future monthly newsletters or reach out to plan a visit!

In Memory of a Pioneer, George Zemaitis

We are once again saddened to announce the passing of another former and beloved teacher, Mr. George Zemaitis. George began his illustrious career at SFDS as a Drafting Teacher. He also took on the roles of Art Department Chairperson, Head of Building Services, Moderator of WYSE, to name a few. George was one of those teachers who would be at school late into the afternoon and on weekends. He was devoted to his students and his school. His devotion to SFDS included having both his children, Craig and Joelle, attend SFDS.

Students flourished under his tutelage. George had a vast knowledge of systems, carpentry and mechanics. He was a great mentor to many. He had a love of Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture. Every year he took students on field trips to tour the many examples of Wright's architecture across our city.

As shared in his eulogy: "role models seem hard to come by these days. Yet, George's pragmatic creativity, moral clarity and love expressed through action are behaviors worth modeling."

Rest in Peace.
