U nderstanding how discarding clutter and treasuring what you keep can make lasting changes towards a more joyful lifestyle

This BLOG comments on the book The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing by Marie Kondo.

I usually stick to my profession and talk about myofascial release as an approach to pain management and changing your life.
I endorse a joy-focused approach to life and my practice is devoted to creating joy and mindfulness while minimizing pain. I rarely use my BLOG space to talk about other topics, but in the similar interest of improving your life in a different way, this book truly sparked something in me that I feel compelled to share.

The basic premise of this book is to only surround yourself with things that spark joy, decide what you value as a possession, not necessarily just discarding clutter.  It is about caring for your items as if they were "real", which will help you feel better about what you choose to keep and, oddly enough, facilitate being happier. Cleaning out clutter and the process described is truly life changing.

Marie Kondo's book is a breath of fresh air and positive energy that brings real joy to the process of organizing your life, and in reading this book, I felt as though it was meant for me. I have always wanted to be more of a minimalist, but just couldn't get myself to do it until I encountered this book. When I started to discard a few things my transformation started.

If it communicates to you in a similar way, delight in it. Please get back to me with your comments and whether or not you felt this was an interesting topic departure that helped bring more joy into your life. Thanks!
