"Sailors who wait until late registration will pay more, however." says J/Fest Southwest Regatta Chair Dave Christensen, "Be sure and register by October 22, at 1700 hours to avoid a $50 late charge." Visit www.jfestsouthwest.com to register or get more details.
The regatta, which draws 70 plus J-boats and competitive crews from around the country, will be held in Galveston Bay October 28-30.
Lakewood Yacht Club and J-Boats Southwest along with a gracious host of sponsors have helped this to become one of the premier fall events along the Texas Gulf coast. Calm coastel winds and moderate climates make racers and spectators appreciate fall racing, which most of the country doesn't get to enjoy.
Race spectators can view the action from shore or purchase a seat aboard the Liberty Belle spectator boat to see the action up-close. Visitors who aren't watching the action can choose from a variety of activities around the Clear Lake and surrounding areas. Space Center Houston, the Kemah Boardwalk and amusement park, Armand Bayou, the San Jacinto Monument and Battleground and Galveston Island are all just a few minutes away.
Lakewood Yacht Club also will be hosting the post-event festivities which include live music from the LC Roots band, a live Cajun shrimp boil and great drink specials.
Other race sponsors include the City of Seabrook, Bay Access, RejeX.com, Davis Marine Electronics, Yacht Equipment Service Center, True North Marine, North Sails, Hayes Rigging, Sparcraft One design, UK Sailmakers, Blackburn Marine, OJ’s Marine, Alliant Marine & Energy Insurance, Edna A. Rice Executive Recruiters, Inc., Gulf Coast Mariner Magazine, Stix-n-Rig'n, Classic Cafe, Merlion, Mario's Flying Pizza, Villa Capri and Iguanas Ranas Cantina.
